Pretty much what I suspected. But what else can ya expect. So far, I have not used the kit, haven't needed it yet. I have replaced heads because the owner butchered the threads with JB weld and the likes, hoping that JB weld would keep the plug in place.
Thanx for the info! I appreciate it.

Re: 1999 Olds Silhouette - Intake Backfire
Yea well, that is what I'm thinking and that is why I was wondering if the 17% Purge Duty Cycle was causing the problem. Also, I am kind a suspecting a possible issue with a fuel injector but I did a fuel injector balance test on each one and they all came out with the same test results, so far as r...

Re: 1999 Olds Silhouette Intake Backfire
At idle long term fuel trim is -25% and short term fuel trim is -10%. Off idle long term is -10% and short term is 0%. Otherwise runs fine.

Re: 2000 Ford 5.4L Spark Plug Threads Repair?
How do you get the ones back under the firewall of a pickup truck that you can't see the spark plug hole, say #4 or #8?

Re: 1999 Olds Silhouette Intake Backfire
Does anybody know if the canister purge should be operating at idle? The scan tool shows 17% canister purge duty cycle at idle and I am wondering about that.

Hey Ric. Don't take me serious. I believe in making this business of auto and truck repair alot of fun. We harass any person we come in contact with, customer, sales person, or whoever is a likely possibility. Ask the MAC tool truck guy. He takes the most from us. Gotta go - work waitin to be done. ...

Re: 99 Olds Silhouette Intake Backfire
Ok. Thanks steve for the reminder. I forgot to mention that the intake manifold was replaced with a new one when I installed the Jasper engine because the owner does his own work (cause the shop charges too much) and had broken the original one. And the PCV valve is located in the front (left) rocke...

Re: 2001 GMC 3500 - Axle Seals
I've seen when using bearings made in China, there can be as much as .0030 difference in the outer or inner diameter of the bearing. This allows the bearing to be slightly loose. I had one (National Brand) some years back that fell into place, no tapping, no press or whatever, it was that far off of...

Re: 99 Olds Silhouette Intake Backfire
Yea, I've thought of that also. If I spray 2+2 GumCutter around any joint it makes no rpm difference. Or isn't that a reliable method of trying to locate an air leak?
Also, it only does it after the PCM goes into closed loop.

Forgot to mention that the intake backfire is only upon acceleration, especially off of idle is the most noticeable.

I have had a similar issue already and went to Chicago Rawhide seals. In some applications, that is the only brand I will use.

1999 Olds Silhouette - Intake Backfire
I got a 99 Olds Silhouette mini van with a 3.4L engine. Starts fine, runs good with the exception of an intake manifold backfire that at times will blow off a vacuum line. No codes, fuel pressure 42psi KOEO, 39 KOER. MAF is 4.6 grams at idle, tps is .64 at idle. IAC is 9 at hot idle, it has a new Ja...

Re: 1993 Cad Eldorado - Charging Problem
Hey! I checked in with my Mitchell1 service info and, yes, the PCM does control the alternator. In addition, if you were able to connect your scan tool you may find a dtc indicating an area of malfunction. So, the culprit could be the PCM in this case. HTH

First of all, welcome to the forum. You'll see all kinds of good stuff, tips, ideas, and whatever for your business. Trust me. I been here since February of this year and really like this Mitchell forum. Along with the idea that steve gave, it could also be a bad battery. I have seen where a battery...
