1989 Jeep Wrangler - 4.2L Oil Leak FIXED

Calling all the JEEP guys!!!! I got a 1989 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.2L engine, manual transmission that got 143,000 on the clock that has the traditional oil leaks on the rocker cover and tremendous blowby coming out of the breather at the rear of the rocker cover. This thing runs great and looks good...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset FIXED

Thanks for posting what the fix was. Today's vehicles and their issues are often electrical in nature and your vehicle there sort of illustrates the point I want to make. Getting acquainted with the wiring diagrams has often led me to a fix on a challenging situation. And in your case it also certai...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset Rewritten

Oh yea, I forgot to respond to the post thanking a few of us for our contribution to this forum. Tell ya what, I have been helped so much by others when I went into business for my own that I feel a deep sense of obligation to return the favor to others. But I think it is great when we can help each...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset Rewritten

At the risk of someone saying that he thinks he is good, I wish I had that truck at my shop. Not that I could garantee I could figure it out but the challenge would be worth a good run. Do you have a good relation with the local Ford dealer that you could get them to look at it? I have already done ...

Re: 1977 Cad Cpe DeVille - A/C Parts?

Try w.w.w.williamcatlin.com in Florida. Its a place I got introduced to some time back. Has lots of AC parts for older vehicles. See if he can help you out. I have not used them as of yet but I do have literature on them.

Re: 1996 Chev K1500 PU - 6.5L Turbo Fuel Injector Lines

Thought I should say that I was able to get the job done with the help of several different style of open end wrenches. The way it looks to me, it should not be too difficult to design a wrench specifically for the fuel line nuts on this setup. I will post a note on my board for looking into this ma...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset

Your fuel level is fine. The test numbers have to do with EVR, Delta, and O2 Sensor issues. These are common issues on these engines and their emissions systems. You need to do a rather thorough diagnosis on the EGR system and related components, including hoses, wiring, and switches. I have found M...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset

I have seen where an evap test failed in mode 6 and that kept the evap readiness monitor from resetting. I had to bring the 2000 Ranger back and recheck the entire evap system very carefully till I found the issue. It turned out that there was a pending code also for an evap issue that had developed...

Re: 1998 Ford F150 - 4.6L PCM Won't Reset

I have seen this already, especially on the Fords. What I did was go into Mode 6 and found the problem. Even though there was no codes, I have found Mode 6 very helpful at times.

Re: 1996 Chev K1500 PU - 6.5L Turbo Fuel Injector Lines

yea steve, in my toolbox, i got almost as many modified craftsman wrenches as i do mac ones. As for snapon, i have very little cause of lack of dealer in this area. But, yea, i know what you are talking about. A torch and welder comes in handy and i was considering that in this job but i got it done...

Re: 6.5L Turbo Fuel Injector Lines

Without a doubt the intake has to come off. The kicker is the bottom fuel lines. Ya got to be double jointed at both ends and have a wrench that is unlike any we have ever seen. There gots to be a better way to make a livin than skinnen knuckles and breakin bones. Does any company have wrenches that...

1996 Chev K1500 PU - 6.5L Turbo Fuel Injector Lines

Does anybody know of an easy way to remove the fuel injector lines off the bottom of the injector pump on a 96 K1500/6.5L Turbo engine? This thing is a pain ........ Also how do you get the two bottom nuts on the injector pump. They are 12 point and usually are extremely tight. I have done these bef...

according to Mitchell1, i can r & r the cam without head removal. (4cyl engine) But thanks steve for your input into this project. I depend greatly on input from my peers since coming into this forum. It is good and i do wish that we could have more techs/shop owners contributing. But possibly that'...

Re: 1999 Toyota RAV4 - Oil Consumption

I realize that it has been 2 months since i first started this thread but the vehicle is scheduled to come in to get the valve seals in. I am wondering about the time it may take. It was suggested by one of you fine techs that i use camshaft r&r + .2 per valve for seal replacement. According to Mitc...

Re: 1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle

I guess no matter what business one is in there is someone that will not be satisfied. hmmmmmmm. Well, well. And, like it or not, most of auto repair shops get lumped into the same category of rip offs, money launderers, and the list goes on, even though the vehicle is fixed. But hey, mom said there...

Re: 1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle

What really gets me is that at times the customer will not believe that it could be something as simple as a blown fuse or the likes. There is when i got to walk away for a few minutes before I respond to the customer. My grandpa used to say that when angry count to 10 before speaking and when very ...

Re: 1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle

Yea, it's interesting. Many shops in our area here simply want to replace this and replace that. Then when the customer has spent yea how much money and is irate, then he comes to me and wants me to be considerate of the fact that he has already spent soooooo many dollars and the thing still is not ...

Yea, I agree, it is really nice and thoughtful when a tech finds a easy way to do something or a shortcut to getting the job done. I will file this one away in my Job Notes Folder on my computer. Thanks Steve. Will return the favor when I can.

Re: 1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle

Yer saying that 1 vacuum leak on a 11/32" line will cause it to rev to 2,200 rpm? Just kidding! But what you are proposing may be the problem. I will check it out now that the vehicle is in my shop till it is fixed. Thanks for the input.

Re: 1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle

Normal idle speed as within specs as engine warms up - 2-3 minutes. Pcv valve has also been replaced. I do not know what brand of iac the other shops were using but i may see if it is an aftermarket brand.
