1985 Chevy S-10 High Idle
I got a customer that has a 1985 S-10 Pk Tk with a 2.5L engine and a 4 speed manual transmission. The issue it has had for several years now is that when the engine is started up, the high idle speed is 2,200 rpm. The high idle eventually goes back to a more normal speed as the engine warms up. Now ...

Re: 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 PU - Brg Hub Assy
I replied: If this is a 2 wheel drive, in looking at a diagram on my Mitchell 1, it would seem that one could use an adapter to connect to the sliding hammer and bring it off that way. Or is this a 4 wheel drive? And Dan: If he is doing an axle joint, I think that would make it a 4X4. Duh!!!!! How c...

Re: 2002 Ford Taurus - Irregular Heat Temps
I have also seen most of the issues already mentioned. The most common problem has been the heater core. If the temperature gauge is fluctuating back and forth it seems fairly safe to eliminate the water pump as the source, no discredit to the techs that have seen impeller blades gone, I have also s...

Re: 2005 Honda Accord - Coolant Sensor Reversed?
This must be a four cylinder engine. If I recall correctly there are 2 sensors on the radiator. Are you sure you replaced the right one? The one is a radiator cooling fan switch and the other is a coolant temp sensor. 2 different sensors. Have seen some techs get this mixed up, and of course the par...

Re: Which Oil For The Diesels?
anybody ever heard of Schaeffer Oil? In our area here (southern pa) its going strong. never had heard of it until recently. I tend to be a little skeptical of a new name until it's proven. How about King Oil?

Which Oil For The Diesels?
We are seeing quite a bit of engine issues including engine failures with the 7.3L, the 6.0L, and even now the 6.4L Ford Diesel engines in pk tks and vans. I remain under the suspicion that the oil, its brand and weight may be a factor in these failure patterns. So the question is: What brand (s) of...

Re: 99 cadillac sts 4.9l vin9 with misfire
Have also seen vacuum leaks on them intake manifolds that will be difficult to track. On the one I saw some time back the vacuum leak was on the inside and was extremely hard to find. I'd think that vacuum should be more than 17". Perhaps there is a valve or piston ring issue, but on second thought ...

Re: 99 cadillac sts 4.9l vin9 with misfire
Had one recently that acted the same way. I had used ig coil so I stuck it on for testing purpose and the miss was gone. Evidently something about the coil. It tested ok but misfired. That was same cylinders. Good luck.

Re: 1999 Toyota RAV4 - Oil Consumption
Is this something I can do in my shop or need the head to come off and a machine shop do it? According to Mitchell service info, it appears that the head would have to be off, disassembled to put valve stem seals in.

1999 Toyota RAV4 - Oil Consumption
A customer has a 99 Toyota RAV4 that uses about 1 quart to 800 miles. Runs fine, no cel, no dtc, gets 30-32 mpg, but this oil consumption is unusually high. Has 125,000 on the clock. In examining inside of cylinders, there is evidence of oil coming through intake passages. (I have a boroscope) Did t...

Re: Specifications Index Top 10 - Comments
As a drivetrain repair specialty shop, my first spec would be fluids and capacities. Next would be torque specs. Then specs as tuneup and drivebelt routing. Quick VIN decoding would be a great help for me as well as RPO codes for GM vehicles. I use them often. Axle ratio specs would also rank high o...
