Pay Hours vs Act Hours

Spent a lot of time focusing on keeping track of Tech hours on each job/task. But when i apply those hour totals, my profit graph doesn't reflect. For Example: i bill a customer 5 hours for a transmission R+R. my tech does it in 3. I apply those numbers to the invoice, but my profit total doesn't change... how can i get the program to recognize the pay vs act hours and calculate the profit?

Do you have the techs pay properly entered in the Technicians setup area? For the profit diagrams to work, this needs to be done.

I believe i do, however i do not assign commission for any of my employees. Does this matter? not sure what else i'm missing...

OK. Let's review.

You should have all your techs inputted under Tech Setup. You should have values for the arrows or the boxes as shown below.

When finishing an order, make sure to input their name and time as shown below.

Here is a profit graph of the above labor as shown without any tech inputted.

And here is the same order with the tech added. Notice we now have a value in the Labor Cost field and the profit has changed.

Thanks Ric, However i do have that info properly filled out. My techs do not receive a commission so those fields are left blank... My Main question is that when i DO enter my tech and their hours for the job, my profit gragh doesn't display a difference if he takes 3 hours for the job or 12 hours. My profit remains the same. It would make sense if he took less time than BOOK time, my profit should increase and therefore be displayed on the pie chart.

Just a reminder that Actual Hours drives the Tech Productivity report.

Correct. You need to input the actual hours to drive the profit report.

I understand you have the commission fields blank, but you DO have values for hourly wage and hours, correct?

I dont think anyone is understanding my query. With all of my tech's info filled out, i tag him on the job for (ex: 3.5 hours), but it takes him only 1 hour, and i fill that in accordingly... MY profit graph doesn't display a higher profit. It's as if he did the job in the 3.5 hours no matter what i fill in as the actual hours. . .Anyone ?

Show me exactly what data you are putting in which fields. Simply stating that you 'tag' him 3.5 hours is not enough information. It's important to know exactly how you are entering this data.

The profit report is driven by the 'Pay Hours' field. It does work properly. If you do not change the 'Pay Hours' field, your profit graph will not change.

How you enter this data will depend on how you pay the tech. If he is hourly, then enter the actual time in both fields. This will give you a true representation of your profit. If your tech is flat rate, then enter the pay hours and actual hours as assigned.
