When you get an ambulance for major work like that, how much time do you add to book time for the extra stuff that makes it an ambulance?

It just depends on waht my schedule is like and what I feel like really. For the head gaskets on this I am getting 32 hours. And its not a rush job so I can do it as we please. I probally should have gotten more. What woudl you have gotten?

i would have gone flat rate plus 5. so it would be approx 25 hours. at 32 you're doing pretty good. now if i got into this and the add on's dictated more i wouldn't be shy.

I been adding about 5hrs for a job like this, plus some more for cleaning things that take extra time....Looked up an 04 E350 and it gives 29.5 hrs with out adding for ambulance stuff, I would probably bill at around 38 or 39 hrs to cover the extra time for ambulance things and extra cleaning I would have to do. The one you have looks better maintained then the ones in our local company so I always have to add a couple hours for cleaning things cause as discussed in a different thread, I hate to get dirty and really hate it when re-assembling things. Hard to make sure every thing is just so when you can not see it for the grung on every thing....

Do you use the studs or the factory head bolts on the 6oh?

Most major jobs like that are flat rate plus 10% time. In special applications such as ambulances and snow plow trucks its flat rate plus 25%. On a vehicle that is not as old and there are no broken rusted bolts to deal with, I'll take off a little time to be fair. But your hours is pretty close to what I would charge. I also charge a higher per hour rate for diesel powered vehicles.

No need for studs unless you are increasing the horsepower.

So far EVEY 6oh I have worked on has been programed for more power. All the ambulances for the local EMS are 7.3s most are 2000 year, a couple are 96 and two are 2003s. Have not had the pleasure of a 6oh in a van yet.....

am i missing something here. we're talking about a 04 F350 and the fender say's it's an E450 manufactured as a cut away. the only reason i'm asking is because all of my labor charge information is approx 3-4 hours less. if i'm missing something i've been screwing myself. and all i'm seeing is a 7.3 dsl listed.

Oh yeah, I forgot they have one sprinter that I have not had in the shop yet and one duramax chevy as well( the one that was smelling like rotten eggs from the exhaust). They used to have two 6oh's, but the maitnence forman had them junk both of them when they tore up( before I started working on them), I wish they haden't cause the 6oh is a money maker. Of course these 7.3s are doing me pretty good seeing as how they have been soooooo neglected for so long, I have put five injectors in one of them (one at a time as they go bad) and they still would not let me replace the ones that were not bad, go figgure......

The thread started as question on a f350 and got sidetracked to some E350/450 talk.........
