1999 Jeep Gr Cherokee Larado - 4.0L Dies FIXED

Post by orthp »

Drive it for about an hour, come to stoplight and dies. Try to restart and the dash is blank; doesn't crank or anything. I have checked all wire connections on the battery and the underhood junction box looks good. has anybody seen this? I also checked the plugin on the igntion switch, looks good.? :) after sitting for some time it restarts then might go for 2 weeks?

Check power on red and pink/black wires at ignition switch. If ya got power there and nothing coming thru on the yellow when key is turned to start ya got a bad switch. If not then ya might have a bad PDC (I have repalced a few) or a failure at the bulkhead connector. We did have some problems with these when I worked for Chrysler, more-so on the Caravans. HTH, Jeff.

EDIT. I checked identifix, found one that cleaning the grounds at block and body fixed it. Guess I didnt think of that to start with. Several others were ignition switches.

i'm glad the stalling is solved but i can't figure out where a bad crank sensor would cause a complete failure. you'd have a crank no start situation.

Would this have been a situation where the sensor was failing after it got heated up? I have seen this at times.

Just a thought.

I'm with Steve on this. Crank sensors are notorious for failing and not throwing codes on these. As far as blank dash and no crank, not a problem generally caused by the crank sensor.

I've had quite a few of these where the crankshaft sensor will pull the reference voltage down due to a short in the sensor it self. This will make the PCM & BCM go crazy & shut down everthing. If you see one again usually unplugging the sensor will bring all systems back to life.
