2001 Dodge 3500 Van - 5.9L Re-program?

Post by brianp87 »

2001 3500 van 5.9L
Pcm says it has to be reprogrammed. We just did an 2003 5.2L and it only required the vin to be put in. Any ideas? We can only flash can vehicles. But I can do the vin in this.

Brian as far as I know you only need to program vin. Pcm is model specific. They can be flashed for updates but if ya got a new one from Chrysler it should be the latest and greatest.

I checked a little further. According to my source, the Gen 2 PCM came out on a 2003 MY. Unless they are replacing the Gen 1 with the Gen 2 now, you should be fine.

This just in......while I was typing this, I dialed my buddy at Chrysler. He confirmed that *some* PCMs are superceding to Gen 2. He says you never know what you might get until it actually arrives. They err on the side of caution and tell everyone it needs to be programmed.

So it's a crap-shoot.

get used to it. i was just complaining to my chrystler parts manager about the quality of parts including new dealer parts. he totally agreed and went on to explain about "up dates" that they are getting without any instructions, directions, warnings, etc. it's not only chrystler it's all (mostly u.s. models) that are doing this. i'm getting parts that look like they've been dropped out of a jet flying over the dealership. it's getting bad. i've also been getting parts that have been installed and removed. personally, i don't care but when i go to return it and i get it's been installed i get a bit miffed. i think it's along the lines of the dealers are hiring kids that just aren't up to master techs's yet or never will be and they allow them to throw parts at the vehicle. is it just me that's seeing this. i'm seeing more and more shoddy dealership work.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
