1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Cooling Fan
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Cooling Fan
Does anyone know what the amperage draw should be for a 99 Grand Cherokee engine cooling fan with a 4.0 engine? This Jeep has no engine mounted fan and relies on just the electric fan. Had a bad fan module, Which I replaced, and just for kicks tested the current draw and found it to run as hight as 17 amps. My gut says that this is a little much. Any thoughts? It dies have a 40 amp fuse for the fan circuit.

If 17 is the start-up amperage and the circuit is 40, I'd be ok with that. Those fan modules were born to break.

It will run at 10 amps and go as high as 17. I figure it's ok but did not want to get burned like I did on a heater fan module once upon a time. Thanks for the input.

I just worked on one of them and would agree. Amperage draw is normal.ricmorin wrote:If 17 is the start-up amperage and the circuit is 40, I'd be ok with that. Those fan modules were born to break.

I hope you really inspected the plug at the module. Got stung a few times by overheated and expanded connectors.

Thanks for the input. Yes.....The plug on the module and the plug for the fan motor looked good.

There was a time when a lot of my customers had older versions of these in their fold and as we all know they would fail every year or two and were a s.o.b. to do. I took a mini air powered saw and cut a hold inside the headlamp can so I could get in and out quick.
