Printing From Workstation

Post by sbebenelli »

We just became a 2 user system. What do I need to do to be able to print from the workstation and have it print in the office at the host computer. Do I need a WiFi connected printer for that? We have an old Canon that never seems to quit on us.

If the printer is connected to the host computer, you'll need to share that printer on your network. Then choose that shared printer in the Manager print setup on the workstation.

On the computer that has the printer attached, go to the Devices and Printers window in the Control Panel. Right click on the printer you want to share and select Printer Properties. Check the Share This Printer box. There may be a tab called Sharing where this will be found.

OK I changed that setting. What do I need to do on the workstation computer. I see nothing mentioned about that printer in manager on the workstation.

On the workstation, go into the same area and add a printer. Select a network printer, and it should search and hopefully find it.

Are you talking about the add a printer button on the top? If so nothing comes up.

Printers are a tricky beast. Some require you to pre-install the driver/network software for discovery. You might want to poke around the manufacturer's website to see if you can find documentation on network installs.

Try clicking on the "Printer wasn't listed' button. Then select the 'Select a shared printer by name' radio button and click 'Browse'. Try browsing to the host computer and see if the printer shows in that fashion.

Didn't work. I might try to come in tomorrow to see if I can get it to work. Hard to do during business hours.

I appreciate all the help. I literally know nothing about networks.

Waiting to get my license for the shop computer, but I have my printer all set up networked, and so far I can just click print and it works. Had to install the driver on the shop computer also.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I have it working. Thank you to everyone who helped.

Just coming in with the doors locked and having piece a quiet makes such a huge difference.
