Message Manager and the Enter Key

Post by ricmorin »

I find myself using the enter key as if it were programmed to 'send' but instead it acts like a carriage return. Text messages are meant to be small. I can't imagine using the return function to start a new line. Seems silly. I suggest the that pressing the Enter key sends the message.

For many commonly used applications this was the way to send, hit return. If look over most of them, this is no longer the case due to how many, "darn, I didn't want to send that yet!" situations. I'll look to see if there are any requests for the change and add you to them. I personally prefer it this way, I've sent too many incomplete messages hitting enter.

Perhaps it's because there's inconsistency within Message Manager. With Chat, Enter causes the message to send. With text, it starts a new line. That may be why I'm always hitting the enter key expecting to send.

I'm with Ric on wishing the Enter key would send the message. On other messaging programs, for instance Verizon Message+, the enter key sends the message. No need for "carriage return" with word wrap built into programs. I would like if Enter would send the message.

An alternate idea might be to use Cntrl+Enter to instantly send a message, like Skype's desktop messaging app does.

Ric,
I never noticed that until now. I realized that I "don't" use the return key but automatically use the mouse or finger! What's funny about it is I am a keyboard short cut type of person...I know most of them in Photoshop.

I will put it in for consideration.

This is pretty sad. This was opened June of 2017. After review of other threads related to Bolt-On it appears that we've been abandoned.

I just read an email that stated this has been 'fixed', not released. Shift+Enter will be the keyboard send.
