2005 Ford Freestyle - A/C Won't Cool In Traffic?
2005 Ford Freestyle - A/C Won't Cool In Traffic?
Replaced expansion valve and added freon. All readings are fine. Searched for TSB but didn't locate any. Any ideas would be helpful.

Two things that I would look at are the cooling fans and make sure the compressor is pumping like it should, when they start to wear out, they will not pump enough at idle to cool the car off. If the cooling fan is on, I would race the engine a little and see if things get better, if so I would look at the charge level or the compressor it self.

need more info here. can the issue be duplicated in the shop by letting it sit and run at idle? is there a secondary fan that activates when a/c is on or head pressure reaches a certain level. if the fans aren't cooling then the a/c will shut down. has anyone been working on the system besides your shop and possibly now there is to much oil in it. working while driving but not in traffic would lead me to look into these two issues. i hope you haven't added more refrigerant than called for because if so you could be adding to the issue. i've had issues like this brought to me from other shops and have found on more than one occasion that the a/c had been serviced as a dual system where it is only a single one. there was to much refrigerant in it.......please add as much information as possible in you next post. it may give a different direction to look into.

When you mean readings do you mean pressures or duct temps? Says you added freon was it low? Has anyone added oil to the system?

Smart way to deal with this start from GO
EV system and see how much oil ya got in it. Then pump it for at least 20 MINS , Then put what the sticker calls for back with a dye in it.
NOW WHAT ARE THE GAGE READING AT 1500 RPM .
Should be close to 26 PSI low
and depending on how hot it is 275 =325 HIGH then let it drop to idle. and see the gage readings.
Open and shut the blend door on the case and stick the stat in the center duct . ==? may be 50"
wait 5 mins and reread the center duct. ??
Pinch off the heater hose dose the temp drop?
you will have the info you need!

what's the temp reading at idle? i believe these have a kind of fail safe system where if the pcm reads overheat or close to overheating it will shut down a/c. possibility of condenser fan failure causing a/c pressure issue at idle...

Possible auto shut down If he goes to scanner or looks at the clutch he woud know. I think it's probally over charged with oil or fan has quit. We take care of a fleet of these and the fans fail all the time most come in with complaint that the car starts to temp gage raise at stops!

good news. just f.y.i. i went to the edmunds web sight and it was full of a/c and surging issues. all the a/c issues had to do with no a/c at idle....................

Is the condensor full of crud? Any underhood cowling or underengine plastic missing?
