Post by JOHN CRESCENZO »

WE HAVE A 2001 MERCURY COUGAR WITH A TRANS PROBLEM.

WE HAVE A LATE 1-2 UPSHIFT WITH A CODE P0732. THERE IS NO SLIPPAGE. WE OHMED OUT SHIFT SOLENOID 1 AND 2 BOTH WERE WITHIN SPEC. ALL OTHER GEARS ARE NORMAL. ALSO CHECKED HARNESS SIDE EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK.

ANY IDEAS?

Without doing the job myself, I'd guess it's a stuck valve in the valve body. I had a similar issue sometime ago on one a them and it was a very small piece a rubber something that got wedged in the valve body. No big deal. Drop the pan, then the valve body and figure out which one is 2nd. Likely you'll discover the problem. hth

Does the scanner indicate desired gear while driving? If the computer commands a gear change and there is no shift then you have an internal problem.
