Re: Tech Sheet Date Anomalies

Odd date is right! Maybe someone at Mitchell is superstitious...

We've been with Mitchell since sometime in 2005, and the only "changes" were for hard drive or PC replacements.

But you do make me wonder if it isn't a glitch that is related to those reinstalls.

Tech Sheet Date Anomalies

Hello Folks. It's been a long time since I've posted, but please don't hold that against me. Hopefully I'm in the right area of conversation. I just got off the phone with tech support, but they were unable to help me with a strange issue. I was hoping that the bright people here might have some ide...

Re: 2006 FORD F350 5.4L V8 LACK OF POWER

First off, please do everyone a favor and turn off your CAPS LOCK. Its easier on the eyes when lower case letters are used. It also constitutes shouting in the online world. Next, let's get some more info out to everyone here: What led you to replacing the MAF sensor? Were there codes or data that p...

Re: GM 3.8 with plastic plenum

We would warn the customer & then inspect the plenum once apart. I know on the 3.1/3.4 engines, we use the metal/rubber gaskets. It's been a long time since we did a 3.8 lower intake, so I don't recall what is available. If metal/rubber is an option, we use that. We have done plenty of plenum coolan...

Re: 2001 Ford Windstar - 3.8L Jerking Problem

Yes, I agree that coils are common. Could be an injector like Tim said. Is it idling rough, running rough at cruising speed, or ? You didn't use the el cheapo Bosch platinum plugs, did you? We have seen those plugs cause misfires when brand new. What brand plugs and wires? What did the freeze frame ...

Re: 1992 Chev Lumina - 3.1L No Start

I do recall replacing many, many coil packs & modules on these beasties. It's been so long since I've seen on I am getting misty-eyed... The modules can trigger normal-looking spark but not send it at the correct time. Are you using a gap-type spark plug tester (GM style or adjustable) or one of tho...

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

Oh! How many are the bumps on my head that match the dents in the walls... Hmmm... I vote for wiring the PCM feeds straight to the battery! :D Did you check all the pins at the PCM to determine if all had some sort of signal? Perhaps you might find a "dead" one that might be the mystery backup feed....

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

Another suggestion: did you look at the schematics for Civics that are a year or two older & younger than your problem child? Sometimes I have found that wiring diagrams don't get updated properly when production changes occur.

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

Just for the fun of it, I Googled "2001 civic monitor reset" and came up with this: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7261 Towards the middle they start talking about a weak battery. I have seen weak batteries turn on SRS lights before... maybe this is resetting the monitors? Just s...

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

Not sure what you mean by "vendor". The company that oversees the equipment and infrastructure is called SGS Testcom. We have the VCI with Honda/Toyo OE software. Help me to clarify what I am reading from your post: 1) are the monitors resetting during the drive or you notice them reset once you res...

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

I have no doubt we could trick this vehicle into passing. Our system is similar to yours, however, there IS a step that asks for the vehicle to be off for 30 seconds prior to testing. Yup, that 30 second wait is on ours as well. Chances are that is was what the other shop was doing until they got c...

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX - 1.7L Monitors

ric, We have seen similar issues on a few odd makes/models. We have been able to trick the NY state inspection computer by not shutting the cars off during the OBD2 test. I am not sure if the NH inspection computers are the same, but ours walks us thru an OBD2 check, which is basically a 2 step proc...
