Bulk oil inventory control
Good morning. I've been wondering how different shops deal with inventory, when it comes to bulk oil. I use the bayboxes from NAPA, which are a 24 qt unit. Is there a way for me too be able to have the inventory know that when I order a part number say, 869933 " The 5w-30 part number from NAPA", tha...

Re: 98 lexus es300 steering problem
I've run into this same issue on many Lexus/Toyota vehicles, & it's the lower shaft u-joint. Here in Maine there's plenty of salt on the roads which bind everything up no problem at all. A quick test to confirm this issue & to spray the joint down with a good penatrating oil--I swear by "Freeze Off"...

Re: Clear Plate #
I've run into this same issue on my 6.4 version. I've tried everything to remove the plate with no success. I did find that if say the plate is 1234 AB & I want to change it to another vehicle I have to eliminate the spacing between the numbers & letters like this 1234AB & it will work.

Re: Sequoia HVAC
I know that in that particular year there was a problem with A/C relays on the Camry's. Not sure if it applied to the Sequoia but I'd look for a TSB under the Camry to see what the part number is on the bad relay & compare it to the one your working on.

Re: Suburbans, Denalis, Fullsize SUVs
I've been using the same cooper nickle alloy brake line that Steve's talking about. If you use regular steel lines it should only be done on a vehicle that will be going directly from here to the "press" at the scrap yard because that's about how long they'll last!!!! My brother used to work at a Fo...

Re: Suburbans, Denalis, Fullsize SUVs
One mans Rust is another mans cash cow!!! I'm with Steve on this one. These are an everyday occurance here in Maine as well. My shop is about 3 miles from the coast so we see a lot of rust just by being so close to salt water, but then in the winter when the DOT & Town Public Works goes by dumping 7...

Re: POLL: Types of Vehicles You Work On
We work on just about anything that rolls. Foriegn, Domestic, Europeon. The only limit I have is the bay doors are only just so high, so if it doesn't fit "Dodge Sprinter Van" I won't commit to anything big as far as repairing due to the fact I can't get it on the lift. Aside from that we repair boa...

Re: POLL: Shop Contact Info for DIY Customers?
Well I voted yes aswell, only for the standpoint of having the shop more visible on a web search. I know that most anyone who would call is a bottom feeder but I can deal with these types. My management system is setup with several labor prices to deal with this situation. Hourly rate, Customer supp...

I think you guys at Mitchell are doing a great job. I've been involved with OD5.com for quite some time & have been posting tips since it started back in 1997 or 1998. Some of you might recongnize me as "Dr G" on that program. I'm glad to hear that on OD5.com there will be a new area similar to the ...

Re: 1999 Jeep Gr Cherokee Larado - 4.0L Dies FIXED
I've had quite a few of these where the crankshaft sensor will pull the reference voltage down due to a short in the sensor it self. This will make the PCM & BCM go crazy & shut down everthing. If you see one again usually unplugging the sensor will bring all systems back to life.

Re: 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix - Code 128
A PO128 should be an "insufficient Temp" code. Perhaps it's an intermittent T-stat issue. I would remove & replace with an OEM T-stat & see what you have after that.

Maybe a sticking valve after the motor comes up to temp???? Try using a good motor flush and oil change & or fuel inj service to de-carbonize valve stem???? Just some thoughts

Re: POLL: SE Mgmt Workbook?
I chose to have the book file on the installation disc. That way you can be promted to print off the info as you want & as Jeff said you can review the info whenever or where you choose. Sometimes I feel if you took some info home at the end of the day with no "distractions" you could read it over &...

Re: 1994 Chev Camaro - LT1 Option Plug Wires
On this particular vehicle you'll have your hands full with out a doubt. I've done several but it's been some time. I think the air pump was the biggest thing in the way. As with Steve, USE OEM ONLY!!!! If your going to do it I'd be going soup-to-nuts meaning wires, plugs, cap & rotor. You need to l...

Re: 1994 Toyota 4Runner - 3.0L Rough Idle
I ran into a similar probelm a few months back. Real rough idle, & a hard restart. Turned out the the cold start injector (mounted 180' from throttle body) was leaking at all times. It never threw a code, but was way too rich causing an unstable idle. I posted a tip on Ondemand5.com regarding this i...
