Re: 2000 Chrys Concorde - 2.7L Water Pump - Timing Chain
Well, my pattern on jobs like this is to explain the risks, prepare the customer for the possibility of it needing a chain, etc., and THEN making the judgement call when we get in there. The initial shop that looked at this did not mention to her any of the risks of this job, and qouted only the wat...

Re: 2000 Chrys Concorde - 2.7L Water Pump - Timing Chain
I appreciate the input. This seems to be a constant dilemma on jobs, not just timing/water pumps. Where do we draw the line at good recommendations and helping someone out of jamb? My experience has been that we either do it right, or not at all. This particular Concorde is a deal where the customer...

2000 Chrys Concorde - 2.7L Water Pump - Timing Chain
Was wondering if anybody has successfully replaced the water pump without a new chain and tensioner, etc.. on these engines. I always recommend timing chains, belts, etc. when replacing water pumps that are driven by them, on any engine, but sometimes customers want just the pump. Hate to turn down ...

Re: 2003 Ford F350 - 6.0L Dsl Knocking, Not Rod Brgs?
Engine out...........driver side head off....... something the size of a 1/4" lock washer has been beating on #6 piston. I'm not sure yet what it was or where it's from. It might be a piece of that piston, as there is a piece missing, but it looks sort of like a lock washer. It's melted into the top...

We are pulling it now. We are going to tear it down when we get it out. I'll post the findings.

Re: 2003 Ford F350 - 6.0L Dsl Knocking, Not Rod Brgs?
Well...... tranny is out, flexplate is off, flexplate adaptor is off, and no signs of bent or broken flexplate. Torque converter looks ok externally. I think we are going to try and start the engine with the tranny out. The fan and belt are already off anyway. Before we pulled the trans. we killed t...

Well, finally got the results from the oil sample....... it showed no metal... just a little excessive fuel, but not much. Guess we're pullin a trans. I'll update the results.

Re: 2003 Ford F350 - 6.0L Dsl Knocking, Not Rod Brgs?
Well this truck had a "new test engine" from ford about 60,000 miles ago. I have killed the injectors and it doesn't seem to show up on any particular cylinder. I'm kind of still leaning toward the flexplate, but I have no proof. Hopefully I can convince the customer to wait on the results from the ...

2003 Ford F350 - 6.0L Dsl Knocking, Not Rod Brgs?
Has anyone had any knocking 6.0 diesel's that weren't rod bearings? We have only worked on a few of these engines, and it seems this one has a rod knock. I have tried to eliminate the flexplate and dampener, but I can't be positive without removing trans. I didn't know if there is a timing gear or s...

Re: 2001 Pont Grand Am - 3.4L Won't Idle
I hope it isn't the PCM....we put one on in Feb. I have not been able to duplicate after putting on the new IAC. Probably will let the customer have it and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Re: 2001 Pont Grand Am - 3.4L Won't Idle
Ok, thanks for the help. I finally got it to act up. TPS volts were good during the "no idle event", but when I went to the functional test for the IAC control, it would not change the IAC counts, or idle up the engine. The IAC counts were 255 at that point, and would not go up or down when commande...

2001 Pont Grand Am - 3.4L Won't Idle
We have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4L that intermittently won't idle. We have not been able to duplicate it yet here at the shop, but it does have a Code PO122 and PO1122 for low TP voltage and or short. The back story on this car is: we installed a new PCM, TP sensor, oil pressure sendor 3 mo. ago (...

Re: 1997 Dodge Stratus - Alternator Light & No-start
I hope you're right. I really don't know what choice I have, but I'm still bugged as to what was going on inside the alt. to make the car run rough or not start. Internal short that was being moved around when the alt. is removed and reinstalled? Seems odd, but thanks for the help, I'm calling the c...

1997 Dodge Stratus - Alternator Light & No-start
1997 Dodge Stratus w/2.4 came in as a "check charging system, battery has been replaced, and alternator has been tested twice...but battery light is on" job. The car was pushed in by the customer. I thought it was kind of odd that I was able to jump it and drive it in. They pushed it in with another...

Re: 2001 Pont Grand Am - 3.4L Surges / Misses FIXED/ NEW PROBLEM
I have rpm on the scan tool on both crank sensors (3X & 18X) and I scoped the cam sensor right at the PCM and it looks good. I'm preparing to install the old PCM to try that ( had to get it back from Napa). Just for clarification, this is a no-start now, I have everything but inj. pulse. I'll post t...

Re: 2001 Pont Grand Am - 3.4L Surges / Misses FIXED/ NEW PROBLEM
I did check it (Cam sensor signal) at the PCM and I have it there, but it is reading a "NO" on the "Cam Sig Present" line on the datastream. My first thought was wiring also, but I have crank & cam signals going in to PCM, but no inj. pulse out, and a PCM that is not recognizing the cam signal. Seem...
