2005 Aston Martin DB9 - Technical data
Why me Lord???? One of our customers called today and wanted to know if we would be willing to work on his Aston Martin. Well, duhhhh, that is what we are here for ain't it? I explained that within the realm of reason, parts and data availability we are certainly willing to take care of his needs. A...

Re: 2003 Chev S10 - 4.3L P0300 Troubles
i'm not sure if cranking it with the plug out would give you an answer. i think that the poppet in the end of the tube is activated by the suction of the piston going down. the main injector fires and pretty much charges all the lines. Steve, Just for future reference it the poppet at the end of th...

Re: 2003 Chev S10 - 4.3L P0300 Troubles
steve, you be funny. Ya really want to go back to those days? Not me. We are havin too much fun in this business. I just wish it paid a little better. Points, condensers, carburators... It wasn't drivability so much as understanding what everything was supposed to be doing. I miss those days too bu...

Re: 2003 Chev S10 - 4.3L P0300 Troubles
We just had a similar problem with a 1997 GMC van with a 5.7. It came in with an intermittent miss the customer described as a violent "shudder" when pulling out in traffic. Naturally we were unable to duplicate the violent shudder, no codes came up, etc. 292K worth of neglect on the engine but it w...

2007 Mini Cooper - 1.6L Timing Chain
2007 Mini Cooper S - VIN: WMWMF73557TL91670 - 1.6L, In-Line4, VIN (3) Customer came in a while back with severe engine noise and decided not to have us pull the valve cover and dig any deeper. Called a few days later saying that Mini told him he needs a new engine and wanted a quote from us for the ...

Re: 1986 Pont Fiero - Clutch FIXED
The disc was installed backwards. The sticker on the disk that said "FLYWEEL SIDE" was on the wrong side. The technition that installed the cluth should have known it was wrong. When he opened the new kit his comment was, " if you need a sticker to tell you how to install a clutch you shouldnt be f...

Re: 1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition -- Followup
Well, it has been about 10 days now since the truck left the shop. No phone calls, (we check them regularly for a dial tone since they aren't ringing much lately anyway), and no other indications of failure. (Almost hate to mention it since that sometimes jinxes what was otherwise a sucess story.) I...

Re: 1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition
UPDATE: Dateline WPB, Florida The saga continues but things are beginning to look up finally. After stopping and reterning to Step 1 several times we were able to duplicate the Stalling/No Start condition. Interestingly enough we experienced more than one type of failure which sort of made troublesh...

Re: 1995 Chevy C3500 - 6.5 - Starter/Flywheel Problem
We replaced the starter after it was determined the customer had indeed 'fried' it. New starter is working fine and engaging properly. The stalling/no restart issue is directly relates since the customer apparently thinks that cranking the starter until it melts will solve his problems.

Re: 1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition
Well, Friday evening late, after running the truck for a long time with out stalling the tech did another tap & wriggle test. This time when he tapped the on the Fuel Driver Solenoid pigtail the truck died instantly. Previous tap tests didn't show this but perhaps the extra heat caused it to show up...

Re: 1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition
Steve, Looks like you are onto something good. Just went over things with the tech and there are two modules on this truck. One is the original unit which apparently failed some years back. The second is installed up off the engine with a heat sink and is the one that seems to be failing now. We wer...

Re: 1995 Chevy C3500 - 6.5 - Starter/Flywheel Problem
Steve, I suspect the starter has been 'cooked' by long crank times and I'll end up replacing it under warranty. Like you said they don't take long start cranking well. I tried several times to explain to the customer and his drivers not to crank longer than 10 seconds and not to crank more than a to...

Re: 1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition
Steve, Thanks for the response. As the shop manager I'll have to get the tech to point out everything for me but I think you are on to something. We don't have a Tech 2 (just the Modus), but might be able to borrow one from a nearby shop. If the injector module you are referring to is the one mounte...

Re: 1995 Chevy C3500 - 6.5 - Starter/Flywheel Problem
liljoe, We checked the ring gear and it is beveled (and not installed backwards). I even heated the ring gear and drifted it to make sure it was properly seated. It appears the pinion must start spinning just before the teeth engage. Initially the starter motor would not spin unless the teeth meshed...

1995 Chev C3500 - Stalling + No Start Condition -- FIXED ?
Naturally we can't get this truck to stall, die, or fail to start when we have rotation. When the truck was last in we did find corroded wiring to the PCM and the fuel solenoid and repaired those. The problems with the wiring were discovered while going over the wiring to diagnose a starter problem ...

1995 Chevy C3500 - 6.5 - Starter/Flywheel Problem
Alas, sometimes just when you think you finally have a solution... here it comes again. Truck has two seperate problems: Failure of the starter to properly engage the flywheel to rotate the engine and intermittent stalling/dying followed by long periods of failure to start even when starter rotates ...
