Re: Bringing A 1961 Cadillac Back To Life
When these little gems are flat bedded into my shop and over the years there have been a lot I try to spin the motor by hand. If it moves I pull out all the plugs and pour at least 1/2 a cup of Marvel Mystery oil into them and by hand slowly spin the engine over about 5 or 10 times then let it soak ...

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rotor Removal
I'm extremely careful about what I allow to be printed on the repair order. I'm constantly removing and or rewriting any transferred information. I have my work order's setup so no part numbers are on them and on occasion need to explain if there were numbers included they would be in house tracking...

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rotor Removal
Not sure but doesn't this also include dealing with rotor run out. I remember running into a lot of run out issues where the rotors would have to be secured to the hub and run out checked. I would take 5 run out readings on each before picking a mounting location then mark it for future ease if I ne...

Re: SOMEONE ASKED WHO WE USE FOR ALL OUR MODULE REBUILDS
As a rule the simple ones with a toasted circuit three days. We drop off and pick up saving us an additional three or four days in shipping time. I've found the technical support extremely helpful and more importantly thorough. The average amount of time we spend on the phone with them prior to remo...

Re: Borg Warner Transfer Cases
Not off the top of my head but if you go to TSB's it will pop up. A quick look showed the Fords were in the late 90's and the GM's were 06. The last one I did I just You Tubed the B/W number. B/W NR3 and NR4 cases on the GM's. Not entirely sure on the Fords but my flow of diagnostics is simply start...

Borg Warner Transfer Cases
Don't know why I haven't mentioned this before but certain BW transfer cases have a huge issue with locater forks wearing out. So far I've dealt with two in Chevrolet / Hummer SUV's and three in Ford Pickups. The only tricky one was in a Hummer otherwise it took less than a half an hour to separate ...

Re: Replace Alternator Decoupler or Alternator?
Mileage, condition, battery condition to see if alternator has been overworking, how customer has felt in the past about doing work to avoid future issues and how I feel letting a potential "come back" leave the shop. I never loose sight of the fact that no matter what I do if something happens ther...

Re: 2006 Chrysler 300 - PCM Connector Issues
Second guessing myself because of time issues or being told that this part never fails has cost me a lot of time. Lately I'm running across replacement parts that are junk or worse junk with different symptoms, this includes OEM parts.

Re: 2006 chrysler 300 PCM connector issues.
Who cares what the dealer says. There should be no changes when connector plug is wiggled. A key step in any diagnostic flow at my shop is the wiggle test and I've lost count of how many vehicles failed that one,

So much t say about issues like that one but I just can't go into that room. As soon as I saw and read what was typed my blood pressure shot through the roof. As we all know he right and you're wrong. No matter what you're going to loose this one. I've got a million of em.

Re: 1997 Buick Century - Transmission Issue?
Isn't this a kick in the jewels. I've lost count of how many "issues" we've come up against that were considered normal operation by the owner. I have in place a detailed pre repair work sheet that is one of the few items that isn't optional. I don't care if the vehicle is in for a slow leak or wipe...

Re: 2004 Ford F350 - 10-6.8L PCM Replacement FIXED
There once was a time when we could rely on quality replacement parts. Today we are bombarded by "quality" parts that have been re-boxed over and over again due to buy outs or manufacturer retagging. I've become so accustomed seeing cores and damaged parts inside brand name boxes. I've seen boxes wh...

Re: 1997 Buick Century - Transmission Issue?
Took me a second to understand that Tech2 was the scanner not another mechanic. Sounded like a multiple choice question from a High School Exam. The issue and no codes make me think of a missing ground, harness connector plugged into incorrect sensor or a series of blown fuses. On the other hand was...

Are there Geek places to send radios like we do pcm's with the vin and have it set up for just a plug and go? There has to be a way. I'll call a buddy at G.M. today and get back to you.

Re: 2011 Ford E350 5.4 Hard starting when cold
What is the temp reading through the scanner? I've seen situations where after certain temps the pcm reads -40 and it floods. Another thing I would see on occasion is the valve timing out due to a chain issue or Valve Timing due to pressure. Is the correct oil being used? Just a few thoughts. Just d...
