How Do You Access Manager/ProDemand?

Post by ricmorin »

There are many ways to set up access to your Manager system and ProDemand. I was wondering if anyone wanted to share their setup here on the forum.

For us, we have a 6 bay shop and the guys move around from bay to bay. Each of us has a mobile box (in addition to the main tool box) with the essentials to move around. I like efficiency so my access is two steps from the vehicle I am working on.

Do you each have your own or share? We also use our snap on scanner for access so basically we all have one plus and extra.

I also have a laptop for each tech in the shop, 3, and also a Snap-on Versus. love the Versus because it allows Techs, or me, to have mobility and have all needed information right in the front seat of a car. Jerry

We have 1 tech station, but alot of the time they get me to look up the information they are needing or looking for as its faster for me and they can continue working on the vehicle or they go on coffee/ lunch break instead of waiting. Also we have two computers up at the front if need be they can use as well.

I have a laptop at each techs toolbox. 3 in all plus the verus (well worth the upgrade in my opinion). I also have access from the two service writers desks, my office and the front customer waiting area (helps when I want to show customers pictures of what we are doing)

With having access in the shop - do you limit the websites, places they can go?

I am always very cautious about what can be loaded on the computers or visited - I would hate for the whole system to get infected by a virus.

While I can't speak for others, we do not limit access. I did once a long time ago but it was more work to manage that it was worth. We have a very robust enterprise level antivirus product that works well and updated hourly.

I to did once limit access but as Ric said it just wasn't worth the trouble. I do monitor from time to time but in the last five years I haven't had a problem, All my guys are pretty good about it. When I have a new hire I make it plain and clear that I don't allow any unapproved website and I let them know I check up on it. So far so good.

Service Writers:
Here are half of our SW setups. Having dual monitors is key for us -- Manager on the left, parts/catalogs/ProDemand/AllData/HipChat/browser on the right.
Image

Techs:
We have 16 bays and have 2 bays assigned per tech with extra bays for quick service, etc. Most all the techs have this type of setup with a laptop on their larger box. For in the car or on the drive diagnosis they each have Nexus 7 tablets that access ProDemand & AllData as well as Mobile Manager Pro. Our diagnostic techs have AutoEnginuity on their laptops and Autel MaxiSys Pro MS908P in their holster. Pew pew.
Image

Office:
Lots of room for us to get our work done. Customer lobby is in the back of the pic. (Counter is not warped. haha. IPhone panoramic photo fail on my part.)

Main Battlestation:
Just for fun. Here is my office. I am aware that my cable management is a mess. ;)
