Tire DOT Registration

Post by abenton4146 »

Read an article that within the next few years tire registration may become mandatory. It would be nice to have an area to type in DOT registrations for tires in the event this happens. It would also be beneficial to be able to search for registered DOT numbers sold in the event of a recall. We have never registered tires here, but are thinking about doing it after having no way to notify our customers when we get these recall letters from manufacturers.

This has been on our list for a while: * Submit DOT # for tire over the internet = See ProPack

Bolt-On is offering this capability today as part of ProPack.

I put them in right after the tire description. I know this still does not help to search for them, we had to go through a bunch earlier with the Nitto recall to find out all our customers. We do right now register all the tires for our customers. I agree it would be nice to search for the dot # somehow.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Actually, History - either by using Search button in History OR the F4 Find History function could find these as it reads part or labor descriptions.

For example, if you entered them as DOT 123456, you could enter %DOT and find those in posted invoices.

% is a wildcard to ignore whatever text precedes DOT in your descriptions.

Better yet, the Management - Part Number Search report is even easier:

Cool, did not realize this, did that work in 5.9 also? That is when we had to look it up, but is nice to know for future use.

Yes it works much the same way in 5.9. The Part Number Search screens are a little different in appearance yet do the same things.

Tim in this case you would have to enter each tire as a seperate part, correct?

Set of tires is typically a single line; the DOT #s would all need to be entered on that line with a partial description search. [%DOT as opposed to explicit DOT 123456]

If there isn't room for all four, perhaps a $.00 part line to store them. Part # Search doesn't care; History Search reads parts and labor description fields.

Thanks for all the replies. We will try using the DOT in the description going forward.

Is this how you are saying we should do our DOT numbers so we can search for them?

Yes, I'd say so. %DOT would find the invoices with DOT within the description for History Search function. Part Number Search - use the Description "contains" option for returning results with DOT text.

If you want to locate specific DOT numbers, care must be taken to get the input done properly (spaces or no spaces) or use something like %DOT U95% to insure results.
