Where Can I Get Obsolete Parts?

Post by Tim Martin »

Right now, I am extremely frustrated. We have several vehicle that are in extremely good condition that parts are no longer available for, new or used. For example, I need rocker arms, bolts, pivots and guide plates for a 93 Chevy S10 with a 2.5L engine. Absolutely cannot find them. What do other shops do when you cannot find parts for a customers vehicle? Tell the owner to get a new vehicle? Put in endless amounts of hours trying to find parts?

I fell your pain. I am running into this more and more. 05 Suzuki XL-7 injector o-rings, 03 Dakota A/C lines, etc. Found the o-rings at Rock Auto, A/C line at Mopar overstock. It blows me away the obsolete parts. Car makers pushing folks into new cars. Best I can tell ya is google search and see what comes up. Good luck!

You probably have a recycling yard nearby with this stuff.

When I worked at one, we would routinely send Engine Parts Warehouse all kinds of rocker arms, pushrods, and other engine hardware that we hade on shelves in milk crates. granted not everybody is as organized as that.

As Steve says eBay, car-part.com and just Google on the item needed and see plenty of internet resources pop up.

Gee if you are interested I have a 2.5 in a firebird that was rebuilt and has roughly 18K on it. Was oversized .060 and the head was decked about .010 on it. All new piston, bearings, cam, rods, it was a full rebuild. Was my first car until the frame gave up on me My father and I rebuilt the engine and trans. Since then I have an acquired a few 3rd generation T/A's and have used this one for small parts in my restorations. But the engine and trans are still there and in the northeast anything with that engine is long gone but always felt somewhere there could be someone that needed such an engine. If that's something that interest you we can talk.

I rebuilt one of those in a Firebird one time, most people don't believe that they actually made one with a four banger.....
