Loveable Ford 6.0 and 7.3's

Post by steven kiser »

I've been doing a lot of these beauties and it's at a point where a cart is pretty much left alone with all the deisl tools on it. Jasper has eneterd the reman worls and sells pumps, sensors, injectors, and attached parts for these. They're guaranteed just like all their products. The pricing on the 6.0 is a bit less than the dealer but the 7.3 blows the dealer away. I have two in the shop, one of each. The 6.0 is getting a pump, injectors (all) and we discovered that the harness for the glow plugs was damaged. The dealer had the harnesses and the glow plugs. The glow plugs were cheapest at the dealer and harnesses were reasonable. I believe it cost around 178.00 for them. My profit on the 6.0 through Jasper jumped about 280 bucks. The price difference on the 7.3 was Ford reman 646.09 Jasper 390.00. With Jasper you get a two day guaranteed delivery and if you want it overnight the will split the extra cost with you.

I'm adding to this post a bit about bringing in work. On all the dsls i work on i've never seen one fail that had clean oil. Everyone had oil like sludge, black goo. I have one customer that has one with 400k on it and he brings it in faithfully every 5k and insists on using Rotella motor oil. The oil comes out golden brown as opposed to all my other customers that when i change it is like tar. I've had filters that weighed 10 pounds and when i spun them off the oil didn't flow down the side. I put a quote for pump and injectors in my management system. One of my commercial accounts purchased Ford dsls in the last round of purchases. I saw the trucks once a year for service and an inspection sticker. They have 12 of them and i got a call last month from the controller for a quote for a pump and injectors. I beat the dealer by more than a few hundred and i'm doing one about every three weeks now. I've spent a few minutes calling all my customers that have ford dsls and after speaking with them they've (for the most part) have started stepping up the services and i've picked up a few more customers because of this.

Have one coming in soon for pump and injectors. This one, in my opinion is a direct result of the customer dumping anti jelling additive into his tank every tank full. If you're in the North and in a cold belt teaching the customer about all these additives is critical. Another perk i have is when i have trucks towed in (usually 4 or 5 a year) with mixed fuel my waste oil heater tanks fill up. I usually get 3-400 gallons of fuel. My shop stays at a comfortable 70 degrees all winter and all it costs me is a 400 service call a tear to tune up my burner. I still charge a dollar per oil change haz mat charge.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Jasper will pay labor if one of them goes out too, good luck with that at the dealer.......

Well, these engines sure have given us alot of work and money the last few years and likely will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. The combination of design and lack of maintainence is a fatal combination in this case.

Thank You Ford Motor Company for these trucks! We are enjoying it.
