1997 Chev Tahoe - No Start

Post by alaskadetailed »

This is a no start.

KOEO the engine light illuminates and the fuel pump primes. As it sits with the key on the engine lite will flash off then back on and the fuel pump will prime again. This happens every few seconds as long as the key is on. Has a new ignition switch and all powers and grounds to the VCM are good. Scanner is showing no data. It will retrieve codes but won't communicate long enough to clear them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Brian

I'd start by checking power and grounds to the PCM. This can be time consuming as you need to be right at the wiring that connects to the PCM, checking every power and ground circuit.. Assuming that's ok, I'd next be looking for a new/rebuilt PCM.

i have checked all powers and grounds. they are good. i have monitored them when this is occurring and all b+ voltages and ignition voltages remain. we are not losing ground integrity either. i dont want to replace the vcm with out being sure first. thank you

it sounds as if it's not reading the key. what was the original issue? it sounds similar to a remote starter issue. if it in fact does have a remote starter it has to be after market. (i think) i believe that the factory wasn't installing remote starters for similar reasons that you're posting. they would fail in some way and cause pcm damage. whether the customer say's it has a remote or not take a look at the harness. a good system will have a transistor in line while others will have a key taped to the reader and tied up under the dash somewhere. it sounds that the remote is activating and just not cranking and when it senses that it will try to restart. oh ya, if you did anything to ignition system the pcm as well as the anti theft module needs to be re-burned. good luck..................these can be head bangers.
