like all trucks that i'm doing any work on the engine i jack the front up, remove the front tires and lower the truck as low to the ground as i can. on some jobs i'll remove the hood assembly. if it's a roll top don't let that deter you from removing it, it's simple and only takes a few minutes. just these little steps make a huge accessibility issue a moot point. not just on this application but on any where i'm replacing injectors, glow plugs, or just opening the engine at all, i'll use a blow gun and clear any debris from the area i'm working at. there are no real tips on this one (that i know of) to cut time.

I can concur with steve with the exception that i just roll my topside creeper over the engine area and go to work. These Duramax engines do give us techs plenty of work. They are not that bad to work on, no shortcuts that I know of so it gets to be fairly time consuming.

i have a top side creeper as well. they're great to have even though it may take a bit to get accustomed to working like that. on occasion i'll feel like a monkey with his hand in a jar. i get a hold of something to move it and then find out i'm in my own way. one arm on the left, one on the right, and me on top of the creeper in the middle.  another tool i use is a tray i purchased through a.w. direct. it extends the width of the engine compartment and anchors. with this, i have a work tray in front of me while i work instead of off to the side. one time i was working outside on a top side creeper, after a nice lunch, a breeze, balmy temprature, no noise, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz  good think the boss (wife  ) wasn't around.

great, just a reminder here. i always charge extra for accessibility on trucks. if it has a snow plow or added equipment that is an obstacle I'll add time.

Always watch to make sure the injector cup doesn't lift at all. Don't panic if it does, just drain whats left of the coolant, suck it out of the cylinder, clean the seating areas real good and use red hi temp loctite (272 I think). Torque it back down.

Them valve covers were stuck on tight weren't they? I don't think you even need bolts in 'em.

I usually have to take the return lines off the injectors with a turbo socket. Usually too tight for a hex key.

he better pick up the mileage a bit. he's not doing that engine any favors. low mileage high maintenance.

55k on an 03? Man, he don't drive much. I got 222K on mine. Replaced my injectors at about 150k. Water pump about 180k. Thats pretty much all I have had to do to it. The CP3 is gettin a little weak now, but I think I can make it last a couple more months. I pull a 39 ft flat bed or a 48 ft enclosed probably 90% of the time so I would agree that the harder you use 'em the longer they last.

To do all 8 including diag was 1 full day. I had it for 2 I wasnt sure if I would get it doen it pays like 13 hours. Be careful about the sleeves if they pull out you will need seals for them and possibly the sleeve. I didnt but it only had 50K. I also did a fuel filter and lof. I alos sold him some diesel lube additive and told him to use it as a possible cause to need the injectors

This one's got over 200k on it. Should I plan on sleeves and seals?
