1999 Ford Ranger - 4.0L Timing Cover

Post by Tim Martin »

Must I pull the engine to replace a timing cover gasket on a 99 Ranger with a 4.0L engine that is leaking coolant where the cover mates against the block?

In a nut shell no. Once the cover is off check for pitting. I use JB weld as a filler and haven't had any issues as long as I hand sand it flush with surface. I hope you're replacing the chain while you're there. Oil pan needs to be dropped to be able to take front cover off. To do this the engine needs to be lifted and supported about 8" or as much as you can get.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
