We have a 2001 Ford Ranger that came in for failied emission. It had a P0442 - evap leak detected. We have repaired the evap hose and reset the monitors Now we have been driving it for 4 days, over 250 miles and we still can not get the evap or the converter monitors to set. We only need 1 more monitor to set so we can go through emissions. If any one has any suggestions as what to do to get them to set we are up for suggetions.

Evap monitors are usually two trip monitors. First the fuel tank must be between 1/4 and 3/4 for it to run. Also, if it's really cold it won't run at all. The cool down period should be at least 12 hours between cycles. This one also does a vapor generation test, which could last 4 trips, so in theory you could be looking at 6 drivecycles. yikes

According to AllData, the evaporative system monitors will not complete if the outside temperatures are below 40 deg F. I don't know what the weather is like downstate, but in the Chicago area it has been near zero for some time now.
