1998 Ford F150 Rear Brakes
We have a 1998 ford f150 2wd 1FTZX0764WKB17803 came in with the rear shoes falling apart. Replaced shoes hardware w/c drums. Everything... When i put the drum on it is fine until the wheel gets tighten down. Then it will not move.. Have the adjuster all the way in i have even removed the parking brake bar just to make sure... If i take the wheel off and just tighten the drum with the lug nuts does the same thing..

Was that one of the years Ford had more than one size of brake shoe? As I recall, I had run into that. Seems to me the measurement difference was like less than 1/2 inch difference in size. Both could physically fit though before putting the drum on.

I would put a light coating of grease on the edge of the shoe that faces the drum. Reinstall and remove to see if it leaves as mark on the drum. In my mind if it turns freely before installeing the whell then it would be the drum binding the edge of the shoe. Just my 2 cents.

They are not rubbing on the edge of the shoes. Covered them in a thin layer of paint and put them on and turned them and found then the shoes are rubbing on the top and bottom of the shoes.

Checked everything out and still did not find much. Cleaned the face of the axle again. Then after that i cut the adjusters down a little and that made it work. Did not have to do much. Even got more adjusters to see if they where boxed wrong. Belie then it was in the face of the axle but customer did not want to pay to replace.
