How did you get to the solution?

Well, it was a combination of trial & error as well as the owners say. We were pretty sure that there was a leak in the high pressure system somewhere, it seemed a matter of finding it.jbadenoch wrote:How did you get to the solution?
One thing it has helped us decide: Next time one of these comes in like this, we seal up the entire high pressure oil system at the same time. All the o rings, standpipes, dummy plugs, and quick coupler.

Its almost impossible to find the internal leaks on these things. Fairly easy to tell it is leaking off but were is a whole nother ball game.

Thats kinda why I say from now on, when a powerstroke comes in an has a high pressure oil leak, we will seal up the entire system.brianp87 wrote:Its almost impossible to find the internal leaks on these things. Fairly easy to tell it is leaking off but were is a whole nother ball game.

It may be they are a can of worms but we enjoy working on them. They do make us a lot of income for us. So bring em on boys, we like it this way.brianp87 wrote:got ya they are a can of worms

So, the next time one rolls up in the driveway with a leak, how many hours should we be quoting for a complete re-seal?

Well, Mitchell1 says 9 hrs to get to the oil pump, and 6 hr for injector sealing. That brings the total to about 15 hrs. There is a slight duplication of labor for each one individually but I would probably be looking at 14 hrs or so.
I am wondering what other shops would do for this.

I used both operations like you did, and as long as there were no hassles ( huge brush guards or a ton of add on stuff to remove) I deduct 1.5 for overlap
May sound extreme, but no one else around here will work on these things, and we really try not to rush the job .
What would be nice is if Ford would sell a kit that will reseal the entire system, what pain trying to order every individual o-ring. Last order I made had a lot of duplication in the sets. I get nervous when my tech shows me leftover parts....

There is always enough time to do it right the first time.

I have to agree with your comments about duplicate parts in sealing these engines. And yes, it would be nice if Ford would simply have a reseal kit for the entire system but that would probably be too simple. But it sure would make our job ordering parts easier, at least I tend to think so.
