2008 Dodge Sprinter - EGR Codes / Low Power

Post by liljoe »

I have an 08 sprinter with EGR codes and low power.

Trying to remove the EGR valve and have removed the four bolts and the valve will not budge. I have pryed on it, but do not want to break anything, what am I doing wrong? Looks like it should just fall off when the bolts are removed.

OK, I figured out what to do. If you remove the two tamper proof torx bolts out of the top of the EGR valve, you can remove the motor off it and then the top part of the cooler housing. After that point you can use two long 6mm bolts and run them in the two holes that the torx bolts were in and they will act like a puller and push the valve out of its hole.

There's a recall on some of those models for the EGR and reprogramming. Recall H44.

No recalls showed up on Mitchell when I looked on there.......
Dealer here told me they are on national back order, but I found one that a dealer in Texas had listed on EBAY and got it coming....

liljoe you might ck. your airflow valve if the egr doesnt help the no pwr. about 80% of the time it will fix the issue completely. but if your luck is like mine, yea its better but still not perfect. the airflow valve is actually the throttle plate which works togeather with the egr. if you remove the lower intercooler hose on the engine side and find much oil you might actuate the stepper motor for the airflow valve it should be a smooth actuation no sticking;. ive had to replace just as many airflow valves as i have egr valves for the no pwr issue. also drivers side intercooler hoses are know for failure good luck. 8) 8) 8)

what about getting the injectors out. i've had a few so stuck i could have used them as anchor points to lift the engine out with. i almost order a valve cover when i replace the injectors. out of 10 of these i've punched holes in the covers of 4 prying the injector out. i took a old 7/8 wrench i had that was worn, cut the short beak off, heated and twisted the wrench so it looked like a "j", bored a hole in the shaft so i could slide a hardened steel sleeve through so it could rest on top of the cam sides of the cover, slide the beak under the lower collar of the injector and pry up. works like a charm. unless it slides sideways and punches a hole in the cover. oops.........

Steve, when this one needs injectors, I will get with you and get design pictures of the custom injector removal tool set up you have created. So far, this and a fuel fiter, oil change, and trans service is all I have had to do to it, and have not worked on any others. I guess I will learn them like every thing else that was new to me at one time or another....

Mopardude, I was trying to pry this thing off and was afraid I was fiing to break some expensive looking parts. I had baptized it in PBlaster and some carb spray to try to loosen the carbon, but had no luck. The bolts that hold the valve down worked like a champ to remove the valve, just alternatly tighten them and the valve just raise up out of the hole and you dont have to worry about all the spray being in the intake system and causing a runaway engine or other problems.

fyi there is a special tool from miller tools pt#9552 which will fit over the injector then use a small slide hammer where you can or pry bar where you cannt. in my zone i can bye miller tools from the mac tool guy. or millers #1-800-801-5420 http://www.spxmiller.com they make all the special tools for chrysler, jeep, dodge, cummins and sprinters. also if your going to remove the v/c on the vb sprinter bring your heat gun to super heat the epoxy used to seal it to the block i always thought that was just great engenering  i fought with those fine works of art at the dealer since they came out and am glad to not have to deal with with it as of yet. ive got all the training from chrysler on the vb vans 2007 to present as well as access to dealer connect the chrysler tech. website for these pric-- and would be glad to help anytime good luck and thanks for the new way to remove the egr. great idea. it would have come in handy. thanks again 8) 8) 8)
