WE NEED HELP GETTING BEARING HUB ASSEMBLE OUT OF STEERING KNUCKLE SO WE CAN DO AXLE JOINT. TECH HAS HAS TRICKS HE HAS DONE IN THE PAST BUT THIS ONE SEEMS FUSED. MARK

snap on sells a tool for it. you back the bolt out a bit and this tool pops on. turn the wheel and the socket will bottom out and press the hub off. works like magic.

We designated a special impact socket and short 1/2 extension for this. By loosing all 3 bolts, attatch socket and extension and pound away, switching between the 3 bolts. Have had some in the past that were so fused, that we took turnes beating on the hub flange with a large sledge until it finally broke loose. That particular one took about 45 min of continues pounding. Sore shoulders the next day for sure, but we got it. Good luck.

If this is a 2 wheel drive, in looking at a diagram on my Mitchell 1, it would seem that one could use an adapter to connect to the sliding hammer and bring it off that way. Or is this a 4 wheel drive?

If he is doing an axle joint, I think that would make it a 4X4.

I know I'm coming in a few days late & you probably already got it out but this is a common problem particularly that year and when we ran across it I looked it up on iatn and found this reply. We were very hesitant to try it for fear of causing problems but as a last resort we did it and it worked. See what you think.

"Found a new trick for removing hub/bearings on '03 and newer
2500 and 3500 Rams. The corrosion on these makes them almost
impossible to get off, even with an air hammer, torch,
sledge hammer, etc... Remove the four bolts that hold the
hub on 3/4 of the way. Take a shallow socket with a 3"
extension and have someone hold this on one of the bolts.
Start the truck, and turn the wheel all the way to the lock
and bump it a few times. Move the socket/extension to the
other side and turn the wheel the other way. This will use
the power of the steering system to press the hub out. It
works flawlessly and I have been able to save hours of
frustration. Let me know how it works for you!"

I have also gotten these loose by backing out the bolts and using an air hammer with a center punch tip in the middle of the bolt and they have come loose right away

the snappy tool is similar to what epruitt described. it's a solid hardened steel tube 4" long with a indentation at one end to fit the bolt head. i fold a few shop rags and place them over the tool. it greatly reduces the sail time if it shoots off. if i have a particularly tuff one i'll place a trash can in the line of fire. if you have more that a couple of customers with thi kind of truck my i strongly suggest you get a few sets of replacement bolts. if i remember correctly the length is an odd size. i purchase the bolts as close as i can on the long sideand cut them down to fit. i use either fastenall or winzer. i've had issues with the bolt being compressed at the threads.
