2009 Honda Civic - Door Locks Won't Unlock?

I have a friend who runs another shop, and yesterday at lunch I was over there visiting him, his wife was about leave and was loading the two kids (1 month and 2 years ) in the back seat, she sat her purse on the front seat and after she closed the rear door, the door locks locked themselves. She had told him that they have been doing this for about a month or two, he just figured she was hitting a button or something. It was 90 something degrees out and the car was in the sun. We took a pry bar and pryed the top of the door out so we could reachin with an antenna and hit the unlock button. We tried from both sides and the car would not unlock.

After a few mins ( we couldn't waste much time cause of the heat) we decided to knock out a window. After we knocked out the pass front window the door locks still would not work, manually inlocked them and opened the doors and the alarm went off, had to unhook the battery to get it to stop. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had any problems out of these cars?

The car is at the dealer right now, but i was just curious.

this happens with the jetta and Rx300. when you unlock all doors, you must open drivers door to stop auto relock. if you open any other door including hatch vehicle will lock it self usually after 30 seconds.

Wonder if the auto relock feature stops the door lock buttons in the car from working? We tried both door lock switches and nothing happened, we even held one down for 10-15 seconds, nothing happened......

somebody locked their keys in a jetta (not me this time) we went out on an unlock, if the vehicle has been locked with the remote or auto lock, YOU MUST HIT THE UNLOCK DOOR BUTTON 2 TIMES TO UNLOCK DRIVERS DOOR. if you just hit unlock once it will not unlock, anti theft thingie. hope that helps. if you wanna try it, open drivers window, lock door with remote, reach in window, hit u/l 1x, nothing, hit it again, yippee door unlocks. not sure if there is a lime limit to hit the second time or not. you might have to use the drivers door u/l button.

you would have to relock, then unlock using remote to turn off alarm. if there is no remote, using key in drivers door. lock and unlock then the alarm will be reset

first dig of my vin 3= hecho en mexico, so my windows are true el manual. i also know the mexican vw's do not play nice with the german vw's. radio plug the same, diff wiring. even though the radio out of a passat functioned correctly in my jetta, ecm would not comm with scanner. had it not happened to me, I never would have believed it.

I'd blame the 2 year old, if it's anything like mine used to be.

They are replacing the window, having it retinted, and repairing the dents at the top of doors where we tried to pry the door to gain acess to the inside of the car. Said they have a module coming for it, they did not say wich one. When he called the Honda store while we trying to get in the car they treated him like he was stupid or something ( prob cause he is hispanic ) but when I folowed him to drop it off and we both walk in with our shop clothes on with our ASE badges on our arms he started talking a bit differently.....

Very thankful for that, but it was scary for a minute or two. Once the baby got hot and started crying it got real bad.

Nothing has been touched on the car. It only has 12K on the odo. I told him what Tina said about the auto relock thing and it makes sense, the problem didn't start till after she had the new baby. Now her routine for loading the car is different then before the new baby, She now unlocks the car with remote and opens the back door to install the baby in the car seat and the toddler in the booster seat. We are figureing that if she isn't fast enough about getting the kids installed in the car, the car will self lock before she gets in the drivers door. After he gets the car back we are gonna do some expermenting and see what we can figure out about the functioning of the system.

 if the remote will auto roll the windows down, hold unlock button to do that.
 unlock doors. open drivers door first. leave d/s door open.
 get one of those mountain climbing hooks to attach keys to belt loop.
 after unlocking door, insert key in d/s keyhole till crumb snatchers are loaded.

I'm sure this was a life changing event. She will just have to establish a new routine.

woah, the problem has been solved. the car is running the doors will lock automatically. this may be able to be reprogrammed, check owners manual. i bet she opens the drivers door, starts the car, opens rear door, puts child in, closes the door and wham, doors are locked. everything is keyed off the drivers door. the doors will not automatically lock when drivers door is open but with key in ignition running, door closed it will. she's either got to change the way she loads the car, see if it is programmable, or have a key cut for the door. you don't need to program it (that costs the money). i've locked myself out of my fishing van three times because of this. she has to re unlock the doors after the car is started. if she unlocks the car doors then starts the car, lets the drivers door close, they're locked. if i were you i would show her how to double key the drivers door (twist it twice in the cylinder) to put the windows down. that way when she starts it, opens the rear door, closes the drivers, she can reach in and unlock the door. unless she's a blonde. then you need blonde star.....
