2005 Nissan Altima - 2.5L P0300
Came in for Check engine light and stalling. Had a P0300 pulled #1 plug gap was closed?
Re-gapped, drove started missing and same thing; gap was closed? Found a recall that is no longer available from nissan? Called nissan customer service and they say there is no recall? So removed the intake and found one of the power valve plates was off and one of the 2 screws that hold it on was on top of the piston. The other screw is gone, not in the cylinder? I figured I would give a heads up and also look for ideas. I'm going to lock tight all the screws on all the plates and since the screw isn't in the cylinder, hope it went in exhaust.
Anyone see this before and if so what did you do?

Found the TSB. I've never seen it. The TSB even tells you which Loctite to use. You might try calling Nissan Consumer Affairs at 1-800-647-7261.
It appears to be a voluntary recall. So I guess they can recall the recall.

Oh, and it IS in OD5.com. Just found it under TSB's. All three iterations of the campaign are there but they all go to the latest.

I see it I typed in P0300 under tsb's and nothing showed and I looked at all the recalls(2). I had no idea a recall could be revoked

Well, it looks voluntary. My guess is the feds aren't making them do it.

Oh well ill fix it but it did dent up that piston quite a bit for such a small screw I bet the other is in the cat.

Re: 2005 Nissan Altima - 2.5L P0300
look closely on the edges of the piston. if there are any sizable dents the ring may be jammed and need to be replaced. what does the head look like? usually when i get a battered piston it requires replacement. i wouldn't be surprised if a valve is slightly bent and even though it's sealing now will start to leak in the future. i'd repair it to assure no future issues that may cause the customer to question my thoroughness. just a thought.
