2003 Nissan Maxima - Stall, Low Power, Hesitation

Post by MarionB2BAuto »

Customer has brought me a strange condition.

Vehicle runs fine most of the time. Then will stumble, hesitate, and stall out. It is intermittent, but consistent, if that makes sense. There is no apparent pattern. It may be 20 minutes of running, then suddenly it starts to stumble, and sometimes will stall out, other times recover. It has lean condition code, and I have been checking the usual MAF sensor and O2 sensor connections and signals. All are good. I want to suspect a fuel pump, but I have never seen a fuel pump act like this. When it DOES stumble and stall, you can tap gas pedal, and it will recover, but if you give it too fast a throttle, or if you floor it, it will climb to 2k RPM and act like it is in torque converter stall, and I get that rotten egg smell in the exhaust. Could it be a clogged cat?

Suggestions? ideas? thought? stick of dynamite? lol

without looking at my repair manager to be sure if this has an egr valve i would look into a weak valve or a vac control issue.
never argue with a fool, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
