Toyota Clutch Switch Diode

Subject vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with a 5 speed. There is a small diode for the clutch switch that is taped into the harness on the cab side of the drivers pass-thru. The diode is about the size of a tic-tac, with 2 male pins that engage a small socket. Toyota has no idea what I'm talking about, can't find it and called into the mother-land and said that it's part of the harness. I'm not buying that(pun intended). Anyone familiar with this and can offer some insight? This one is missing.

I will send you a PM in a short bit. Not sure it will help, but you can look around and see if you can find the part.

If I knew what type and rating diode, yes.

My father in law was into all of that kind of stuff. He had ways of telling. I believed he went by colors, striped and things like that. What if you hit a salvage yard and saw if there was one in a truck like it, then cut some of the harness so you had it all?

That appears to be my only choice. The diode actually unplugs from a connector. That's why I'm sure it's available on it's own. It's that no one can come up with a number.

Ric,

If you can't find a Toyota part, here is a website that will help you calculate the ratings to select a diode and pick one up at Radio Shack.

Hope this helps,

Sorry for the late reply on this on. Been involved in a rather messy situation on a truck. I have a good friend that's chief tech at a high volume Toyota dealership. I'll contact him tomorrow.

Still looking on this one. Some research showed that 2005 and up Tacoma with MT uses this diode. Currently checking bone-yards nearby but so far....nothing. Not wanting to visit RS on black friday so I might go tomorrow, but would rather have the right part. Ugh!

Called my friend at Toyota and it is part of the harness and at his level there is no other information. He's contacting the local Toyota trouble shooter to see if he can get information on it. I'll get back to you asap.

I went to the Shack last night and picked up a couple of diodes I think might work in the interim. Let me know if you hear anything and thank you. :D

Update and the back story.......

The Radio Shack diode worked.

The reason for the missing diode....me.

This truck came in for a symptom. Every time you pushed in the clutch, the idle would drop a few 100 rpm. It occured exactly as the clutch switch engaged. It only happened during engagement, not release. You could actually stall the engine if you pushed the clutch in repeatedly. After reviewing the wiring diagram, I suspected the clutch switch diode. Being taped into the harness, I was surprised to easliy find it(thank you Toyota). It fits into it;s connector flush, so there is no way to grab it to pull it out. I was using a pick to push it out. Thinking there would be some reasonable resistance, I used some force when the unthinkable occurred.......it flew out with such speed I couldn't find it. It's there somewhere, under the dash or somewhere, but I couldn't find it. One of my guys looked too, nothing. It's so small and black and lost. I didn't sweat it at first; just get another one. I figured it was broke anyway, and that's why I was removing it; to test it. The reality is it's likely part if the harness(thank you Toyota).

The RS diode worked, but the symptom was still there. Not good. I wanted to test the clutch bypass switch so I removed the knee panel. Guess what I found........a remote starter. Hmmmmm. This thing has got to go. And that fixed the car.

I still would like to get the right diode in there.

So it was my fault. LOL. What a dummy!
