2008 Lexus GS350 AWD - Lost Power

Post by gale »

Good afternoon

We have this Lexus, customer was driving then it just lost power and was unable to drive over 40k and the check engine light
came on. We scanned and get hard codes of PO016 - crank Bank 1 Sensor A, PO335 - Crank circuit and PO340 - Cam Circuit
we don't have mcsh information about these cars, not sure where to start. at first though was a Crank sensor - not so much now,
installed a new battery cause battery was pretty much dead.

The battery issue caught my eye. Is the alternator working? If it failed the vehicle may act like you posted.

Tried it again this morning, Car has excessive cranking, even disconnected the alternator, same problem but the only code that have now is PO340 (Hard Code), once finally get started, seems to run but won't rev up at times

A bad cam sensor will create a code PO340 and a long crank since the cam sensor establishes the sync. I would scope the cam signal and see what you have.

I would also take some time and look into the cam timing oil pressure valve. First set of codes point in that direction. There are also filters in the oil feed tubes that should be looked at. When I looked into this a bit there was a lot of chatter about a tooth off on the timing chain.
