2003 VW Jetta - Which A/T Fluid?

Post by Tim Martin »

I got a 03 VW Jetta with a 2.0L engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission. The question is what fluid should I use in the transmission? Only oem or is there an aftermarket oil that meets VW specs? Customer wants VW oil, but at $19 a quart????? Wow!

You can use synthetic Dexron III with Platinum Lube Guard.
Uncle PETA said I could come back.

We use Pentosin ATF1. we pay about 10 bucks a quart for it. Never tried LubeGuard for this one but we do use them for other products.

One shop locally I called says they use Wolfs Head Synthetic Transmission Fluid. Works well, they say. Any take on that? I have that in inventory.

You'll need some special tools and a VW compatible scanner to check the fluid. VW says the fluid in there is lifetime and does not need servicing. Only time you need to check it is if you have a leak or do overhaul.

yes you gotta have a vw scanner. Our closest vw dealer is 110 miles away. And there are not even close to enough vw's in the area to dictate getting one.

The VAG-COM is a great alternative to the VW factory scanner. Does everything except immobilizer.

i'd call jasper and ask for tech support. they'll jump through hoops to answer any question you have even if you didn't purchase anything from them. another thing i've done is the good old google attack.
