2001 VW Jetta GTI - 1.8L Turbo Erratic Coolant Sensor

Post by Goose »

I am working on a 2001 VW Jetta GTI 1.8 turbo. At times the temp guage will drop to cold and then come back to normal temperature. The car runs fine. According to the wiring diagram it looks like a fairly simple circuit. Only the temp sender and the cluster. This is the second Jetta that I have seen do this. The first customer decided not to investigate. Anyone seen a common denominator on these cars? I checked and did not find any TSB's

I've replaced plenty of senders on VW's. Seems to be very common in these parts.

ha, ha. I got the same prob here. When my temp gauge works in my car, my l/r door will not lock with the remote. When my l/r door locks, my temp gauge don't don't work. Finally threw a CEL, read it. it was po117 i think, something about temp sensor input low. fans kick on, a/c and heat work.

when the gauge works it reads normal. when it doesn't work the needle just stays in the park position.
