1998 VW Beetle - 2.0L Program ECM For Throttle Body FIXED

Post by protraxrptr17 »

The customer had the battery go dead and then had a no start. I found that the electronic throttle control was acting crazy. Has code p1543.

After more research I see that sometimes the ecm loses it calibration codes for the throttle control. I signed up for a subscription on erwin to reflash the ecm but their site sucks and it says no results found when I enter the VIN. Surely they have a download for that car on the site. Anybody have experience there?

I'm thinking all you need to do is re-learn the throttle body. This is done with a scan tool. Most aftermarket tools come with this function.

OK. You may have to borrow something then. If you do a fair amount of VW or Audi, I'd recommend VAG-COM. http://www.ross-tech.com/index.html Reasonably priced and does most everything a Vag will do.

Snap-on day is tomorrow. Guess I'm gonna bite the bullet. They say its will do almost the same stuff the Vag-com can do. We'll see :?

It's not bad at all if you only do occasional stuff. Programming keys and modules may require the Vag-com.

i agree with ric. snap on is a great tool. i use the solus and modis. with volvo relearn i have a dealer that offers a road service, tech 2 for gm's and the star tester for fords. i have a saab card for the tech 2 and am always looking for new cards on e/bay. i haven't purchased any other o.e.m. scan tools but may be forced to buy the one for chrystler/dodge/sprinter.

I should be able to program any modules with my pass thru pro II right? It just so convenient to have everything together in my MODIS.

Snap On Euro did the trick. Seems to have the same capabilities as the factory tool. Really pleased with it.
