We have a 1998 Volkswagon Beetle that keeps going through headlight bulbs and needs to have the Internal Pigtail that connects to the bulb, but they are not available new from Volkswagen, other then buying a new headlight assembly - have tried looking for a used one but there are none to be found, I am only assuming that the Auto wreckers will sell it with the headlight cause appears to be part of it - has anybody seen this problem and been able to find and/or make up a internal pigtail for the Beetle - it is only a H1 bulb but the pigtail has three wires that comes off of it.

I would make my own, with some spade connectors, IF parts can't be found. Maybe parts on line somewhere

Re: 1998 VW Beetle - Headlight Bulb Pigtail
Gale, I guess my question is "What is that 3rd wire?" Is it a dumbie wire that they may use for multiple head lamps (IE one harness and it may be used on vans and jettas in which maybe the third wire is used)? Volkswagons terrible wire diagram shows a Brown wire and a Yellow/Black to the low beam. A Brown wire and a white/black to the high beam. Shows no third wire.

My buddy at Traverse Motors VW says:
Part number 1C0-971-671. "oh the one that always burns up? I only have one left"
Looks like this in a Google search:
