SE 5.54 Manual P.O. Parts Highlight?

Post by Rich »

Running 6.5.54, just noticed that when doing a manual PO that the parts do not get highlighted. Guess it may have been this way for some time and I just noticed, but it sure would be nice if it got fixed....

(yes i used search.)

By manual PO do you mean a non-electronic vendor? If so, there is no mechanism to trigger the 'ordered' step, so no highlighting will occur.

I had a conversation with someone about this a while back. I was thinking there could be a button on non-electronic vendor PO's that could trigger the 'order' event manually. Then upon receipt parts could change to the other color. Would certainly help with manual PO's. Or don't make the PO unless you are ordering.

Perhaps there could be a window similar to this that appears when the manual order button is pressed that states, 'Parts have been ordered Manually'.

This way users can enjoy the benefit of highlighting even if they have no electronic vendors. :D

I think anything would help, but the highlight would save "Me" a lot of time. The check box is a good idea, however, around here it is hard to get the guys to follow the very elementary system we have now. Asking that they check a box may be enough to flip them out. The more "automated" it can be the better it would be. As far as it goes here anyways. yes I know its a training thing...trust me...i know.

Could with of you help me with describing your workflow that leads to the manual creation of a PO, [or via Picklist?], is there a default we could set it to based on a specific event, i.e., if you print it mark it as ordered. I'm for making it automated, just need get my head around how that might be handled...

What if emailing the PO was the trigger?

For us that would be via Pick List. That's how these non-electronic vendor PO's are made. You could use the print method, but how different would that be from a simple button? Both require user intervention.

We'll keep thinking....... this is good.

Interesting idea. Not all vendors have email. I suppose we could just put the shop email in there.

Edit: email is a great trigger for vendors with email. Will need another for those without.

Can you use the "SAVE" button as the trigger?

for myself we get a better cost on parts if we order "direct" from the Auto Value warehouse. However, to this point the warehouse is not linked to Mitchell. Or if we order something out of the ordinary on the phone from someone who is not available via electronic ordering.

I look up the parts just as i would any "on line" part through Mitchell and transfer to the RO. However, when I go to order the part I log into a web site and hand enter the parts information and order. Then go back into the RO and make a pick list. So the parts are ordered, however the Mitchell system has no real proof, other than i had made a pick list.

I do like the idea of a check box "highlight parts on RO as ordered". But around here some of us have a hard time making a PO. I think the box would never get checked. This is an internal issue, and nothing Mitchell can do to fix. But i have to believe there are other "gremlins" with the same problems.

If it's an AutoValue, I do believe there is a catalog to connect... Look at line 4, 5, and 6 on http://m1faqs.com/fix/SE/catalogs/

If we were to use the Save button, I think we would also have to add a setup option to control it's behavior... complicating things....

I'm falling back on a simple button called Parts Ordered.

I'm joining this conversation a few months late, but being able to have manually entered PO's highlighted would be a huge help. We order virtually no parts through any of the standard parts suppliers. WorldPac gets most of our business because of their German OEM inventory and the PO system works ok for them. But there are a lot of parts that we order through specialty distributors who don't have Mitchell Catalogs. In those instances, a manual PO doesn't do us much good as it doesn't allow us to track parts status on the RO.

A button that would allow us to manually highlight parts on a manual PO, would be great!

My second request would be to allow us to create a pick list for Estimates. When a customer schedules an appointment, we create an Estimate for the job. Only when the car arrives do we convert it to a Repair Order. We need to have parts here prior to the customer arriving, but there doesn't seem to be a way to track a PO or highlight the parts lines as an Estimate, which would again greatly defeat the purpose of using the PO System.

Thank you for any advice or help!

Consider using Special Orders for parts ordering in advance of an appointment. Everything tracks just like an RO and you know exactly what they are for. You can start a Special Order from scratch from the WIP screen by going to View> Special Order.
