I just came from a development planning meeting and discussed this issue. We are fixing it, I don't have a timeline but will fit it in to an already full schedule. Try using F3 to search for duplicates.

I feel the same way. I just spoke to Mitchel Support again about it and they said NOT to use it.... I really, really love this feature. But..............it does not catch the duplicate VIN. License plates change ALL the time in Washington too. Dear Mitchel: Please link these somehow. Please??!

I do a lot of work for used car dealers. It's not uncommon for me to service a car before it's sold (no plate) and then have it come in later after it's sold (with a plate). Last week I had three cars that were plated from them. I had seen all three before. If I had decoded by plate I would now have three duplicates.

I am not sure how that works. If you enter the new license plate # with the F3 it tells you it has not been in before. You would have to enter the VIN. Am I missing a step?

That's exactly it. Bottom line is you'll need to enter the VIN to search for duplicates. You don't need F3 to accomplish that, really. If I try to enter a duplicate VIN directly in that field I get the duplication warning.

My approach is this: unless I'm absolutely sure a vehicle has never been to my shop, I do not decode the plate. (until it's fixed)

I know they have a lot on their plate right now with the new truck implementation. Some scheduler changes are due soon. I haven't heard anything on the plate decoder, though. From experience I know that what appears an easy fix from our side often poses huge hurdles on the side with all the zeroes and ones. :(

Allowing duplicate vins will be fixed in 7.2 due early part of 2017. I thought about finding duplicate VIN, there is no report for that. I can build it... what should be on the report?

The vehicle and owner details.

Too bad there is no way to merge vehicles.
