7.3.8 First Name Search Delay?

When i use the First name to search for a customer my system goes into la-la land, it pauses for 46 seconds (yes, i did actually time it) before it wakes back up. I can enter 1 letter and its out. If for some reason I spelled name wrong and hit the back button to delete wrong letter all of the windows turn white before it comes back to life.

Anyone else having this issue?

I'll look into your database here and see if there's an issue with it.

Good news/bad news Rich. I see no problem at all with your database looking up customers by first name. The bad news is that means I don't have a fix for you.

We see this as well, it seems to be intermittent.

It's definitely a bit strange...especially if intermittent. If you guys get a chance, please call into support next time it's happening.

i can make it do it EVERY time.........

I just did it, but this time I didn't have to reboot.... PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have this same issue. I know we previously could search by first name no problem. My guess it has something to do with how the search fields are indexed or something. Probably optimized for last name searches? I suspect a lot (everyone) has this issue, but most search by last name and aren't aware of it. Happened after an update, not sure which. Not causing a major problem, but some customers like to use three different last names.

With the recent Change Ownership and Rolodex changes, we have had some changes to customer searching. We're definitely working on the performance in this area of the application. What's made it difficult is the varied results from user to user — some of the fixes we've tested have shown vast improvements for some and the opposite for others.

Either way, we certainly will stay after this until we've developed a solution that works for all.

After this post was re-born, I have tried a first name search as often as time allowed. I have not had any more issues!

Running 7.3.10
