SMS Allowed

Post by GUTHTIRE »

As of version 7.5 there's a new button, SMS Allowed, on the Customer page. I recall a prior enhancement request to have the capability to "flag" how a customer wishes to be contacted, e.g. Text, Mobile Phone, etc. however the button isn't a toggle. Can someone elaborate on it's use or point me to where it is in the documentation?

I believe that button does something if you sign up for the texting option.

Rich is correct. You can turn off outbound texting at the customer level by selecting this button; only if you're signed up for texting.

We have texting thru Bolt-on. Any reason that button shows up if we never subscribed to texting thru Mitchell1? The button, for us at least, is not really a button/toggle, I can press it all day and it doesn't do anything...essentially it's just on.

Dan, that button only works with our texting. As Ric mentioned, it's an opt-out which will block all future Manager SE texting attempts to that customer unless switched back on. We consider this to be very important in the near future as privacy and direct marketing laws become more strict.

Is there a way to "default" them all to "no texting". This way I can ask permission, and if I get it, then click it to "OK"? we don't have it yet, but wanna get my poop-in-a-group when i talk to the owner about this awesome feature.

The button is there on all installs of 7.5. It'd disabled until text messaging is turned on, then it becomes a toggle.

It would be beneficial if we had that functionality also, those without Mitchell1 texting. While I understand there's logic/programming behind the button being on/off it would be helpful if it were switchable even without the underlying logic/programming. It doesn't have to be THAT button but an indicator of sorts so we can check the preferred method of contact with the customer.

For those without Mitchell1 texting the button stays on or allowed.

We were just talking about customer contact overhaul today. That's on the enhancement list already and is definitely due. SMS Allowed button something entirely different.

OK, the SMS button is something different but if we don't have that functionality why do we have that button at all? It confused me, I'm sure it'll confuse others. No Mitchell1 texting = no button. :D

Perhaps I'm missing something?

Rich, there's not a simple way to do a global switch. What I can say is that we are vigilant in regards to privacy and communication laws, and we erred on the side of caution. Currently there are no restrictions around direct communication that isn't direct marketing. If the legal horizon changes we'll take the steps necessary to ensure our customers are in compliance.

For now, in a nutshell, your customers gave you their cell numbers with the understanding you would use it to communicate, no?

I agree, for me i LOVE texting. But, apparently CRM is texting peeps now. And so far about 90% of them reply with "Stop", however, in that case they are given a link and most are afraid to do so thinking scam or virus.

I hope someday soon I can text, but i have to give some SERIOUS training on my end....

You can easily turn off CRM texting by going to your page and turning it off.

There are 2 different texts CRM sends. An appointment reminder and a follow up. You can turn each on or off individually. Very nice.
