Tax exempt report?

Post by rhillig »

I'm so lucky......got picked for a Sales and Use Tax Audit. Trying to make sure I have all the tax exempt forms from the customers that do not pay tax. I was looking thru the reports trying to find if there is a report that shows the tax exempt customers, I don't see one, but I might be over looking it?

Thanks

I have no experience with taxes as we have none in NH. I looked through the reports in Manager and Propack and did not see one like this. I did a mail merge export and did not see tax status included in any of the columns. Sorry.

If I had to track this, I think I would mirror how we track insurance cards required for our loaner use. Every exempt form furnished would get scanned and sent to a specific folder for safekeeping. Files would be named by customer and expiration date.

A good document scanner is paramount today, along with an online backup plan such as Carbonite. Saves us tons of time and space.

I do have all the exempt forms, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a customer marked as exempt that I don't have a form for. I'm thinking I will just look at a list of the customers for the last two years & see if I can tell if someone might possibly be one that could have had tax exempt sales. Luckily, I don't think there are too many.

Great to hear!

I was going to recommend, that if you do not use membership # for anything, to add "tax exempt" as a membership# to each TE account, then you can search for membership number "tax exempt" and all of them that you have tagged will pop up.

(if you send Christmas cards out, this is a great place to enter "Christmas Card" in the membership number also)

I really like this idea. I'm going to be proactive and tag each one as tax exempt, I have a lot of these. After I add tax-exempt what report would I run to list membership #?

How i do it...

F6
Then click in the "Memebership#" box
enter needed info "Christmas card" (or maple syrup, fish, car - for sale 2/20, car - wanted 2-19....)

Ps. I try to enter a date behind some things, like car for sale/wanted, if i search for "car" i can see date, if its over about 6 months old I delete it as I assume it was sold/bought by now.

I have yet to find a "membership" report. (Tim - enhancement request?).

(ignore this next part Tim) I also have noticed that you CAN duplicate numbers, that could be bad for someone who doesn't want duplicates, but I am not going to say a work to anyone as I love that ability, I can have 30 "Christmas cards" and not have to Christmas card 1, Christmas card 2......

Nice ideas, Rich.

Remember that you can generate a quick list of customers by using the Mail Merge export. That list has both Membership data and Remarks data.

If you have Propack you can build your own report using the Query Building Tool. That tool will include membership.
