Part Numbers on Invoices

Post by ARS »

We are wondering if there is a way to not print the part numbers on the customer invoices? Also what are other shops doing about putting part numbers on invoices. We still need the part numbers listed on our invoices for sales tax & warranty issues.

This is what happened today. We did work on this customers pickup the other day.... brakes. We always list the part & part number on the invoices. This customer went home & looked up on the internet for the part number & found that number & a price that is close to our cost. So today he came & talked to my boss about that. We told him about mark up..etc.

Anyway, we are thinking that this issue may become more common when everyone can look things up on the internet.

So let us know if there is a way to print no part numbers on the customers invoices but still keep track of them ourselves & what are other shops doing with this issue.
Thanks, ARS

Also, we are thinking about other industries... plumbers, electricians, appliance repair... we do not remember them putting part numbers on their tickets. Just wondering how to get around it for us.

file, print set up, click on invoice. Check out the ones that start with INV. we use INV No Hrs/Parts/Rev Data.

Only kicker I see is if the customer is out of town and had a warrenty issue the copy they have shows no part number, repairing shop or customer has to call us to get information. (this has not yet been an issue for us)

Thank you. So do you file a hard copy with the numbers or just rely on the computer...

There are several Invoice templates that come with the program that do not print part numbers. Simply choose one that fits your needs.

This is a comsumer, not a customer.

We put our part numbers on our Invoices and will continue to do so.

I just had my electrician install an outside LED lamp over my main entrance. He provided a bill with part numbers for all his materials. I know I could buy the same stuff cheaper. Heck, I could've installed that light. But I wanted it done by a professional and I'm quite pleased with the bill.

You don't bring a steak to a restaurant. We've all heard that one before. The difference here is in my state I am required to itemize my invoice. Restaurants do not.

What is the difference between the INV w/o hours & part # & the INV w/o hours/part # & no rev data?

Our copies are the same thing the customer gets. To see part numbers we need to pull them up in history. We do not pay for any addition invoice options and all the other reports. The program is just fine the way it is for us.

Hi, I changed my Invoice option to hide part numbers for the same reason, but I couldn't find a template for EST w/o part numbers. I often print out EST for customers to take with them, but don't want them seeing markup online. Is there a template for EST as well? If not, will there be in the future?
Thanks, Sam

I don't see that as an option on my system. But I am sure the guy that posted up above will be quick to jump in here and try to sell you his program............

I did find an option called "lump sum estimate". However i have NO clue what that does, use with great caution....

Lump Sum does not show any prices for parts or labor. Just one bottom line price. This might work for you.

Lump Sum templates are provided for Texas ONLY. I don't think that will fly legally in any other states.

Is that different for SE users? We use lump sum here and I just printed one to be sure. I see nothing that indicates Texas on the print out. Or are you referring to legality in other states?

Ah, I see.

To that end, IF your state requires itemized estimates with a seperate parts value and labor value, lump sum may be an issue. We use it for the price shoppers AND we are required as stated above. Giving regular customers 'quotes' we use the RO function, not that we do it that often.

Carole,

That is part of the Report Pro add-on module by Bolt-On. You can contact them about purchasing this feature. Their website is http://www.boltontechnology.com/. Mike is also a regular contributor here and may likely chime in.

Thank you! I was just looking at this online, I am not interested in everything the package has to offer, is there a way to add on just the custom invoice or do I have to get the whole package?
