Special Discounts?

Post by MarionB2BAuto »

I am looking at getting "special" discounts for family members, and employees. What I want is to get the parts prices to reflect cost plus 10%, and the labor to be "shop" labor. What I mean by this is: Our shop labor rate is $50 per hour. Tech pay is $20. I want to have it where the family member pays the difference only...i.e. $30 per hour. Since I will be doing the work, I want to have it where as a tech, I don't get paid for the work, but I need the accounting to show the labor hours for the shop, as well as the profit. Can this be done?

Customer Type controls labor rate + parts price level by %.

OK< will look into that. How would I charge labor though, without having a tech "get paid" for it. I an doing the work myself, so I don't want any of the accounting to show that I get any money. Basically we are setting it up where they get MY time for free, but since the car is in the shop and using up shop space, they are paying for that.

Also, customer type shows a DISCOUNT, which reduces the markup, but I want to set a FIXED mark up....how?

Customer Type doesn't display a discount of any kind; it merely sets the labor rate and part price level per customer/vehicle record to be automatic every time unless you make an exception.

If you were to manually select a Discount or Coupon under Promotions, those generate a note line defining the Discount type and adds red columns in the running totals and a spot in the invoice totals.

As to how you handle the billing (hours shown @ $00, etc) I'll leave that up to shops to respond what they do.

FOR OTHER SHOP OWNERS WISHING TO CONTRIBUTE:

I may be wrong, but from what I have gathered, I have no way to set up a pre-designated type where all parts get auto-billed at cost +10? I would have to do it manually each time? I was hoping that all I would have to do is just create a work order for the family member, and whenever I entered parts, no matter what my pricing matrix has, it would do 10% across the board on all parts. Also on labor. As indicated, my labor rate is $50, and I want the end result to be that they are charged $30, and that no tech gets paid. Can a job be assigned to a "no tech" status and still get worked on?

As far as the parts are concerned, the program works like this: Part cost is multiplied by your matrix, then individual rates change the sell price up or down based on Customer type. It does not make a sell price from cost plus percentage. You can still do that, but it will be a manual method. To do this, once the part is on their RO, just select the User Entered sale checkbox and and enter the manually calculated sell price in Unit Sale field.

Labor should be easy. Just make a rate for 30/hour and set the appropriate customers to that rate. Hours will show correctly. Input your name and show 0 pay hours. That should satisfy your labor accounting needs.

One other solution on the labor is to create the 30/hr rate and call it family or such, then create another tech and bill all family jobs to that tech. Just something that randomly popped into my head as reading your posts, might help, might be way stupid. Who knows? Not me.....
