Vehicle Year Cut Off?

Post by nickscarcare »

We have noticed since the last update, we are running 7.0.18 the year of the vehicle on some vehicles, it depends on how much info is on the line, it cuts off the year. We also noticed that the line separating the parts and labor no longer goes all the way down, which is no big deal. The year being cut off is a big deal for some sending in warranties or for just normal identification of the vehicle on the invoice. Have any other seen this or is there a fix?
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Where is the year being cut off? On an invoice (printed) or on a display (monitor)? If on a printed invoice, which template? If on the screen, which screen?

Inv w/o hours, it is being cut off where the year is on the top of the invoice. The paper when it is printed out.

Ah yes. It took me a while to find a name long enough to see the problem.

It would appear that the name field overlaps the vehicle field slightly in the setup. The name field includes a business name and the person's name separated by a hyphen. With longer business names it pushes over to the right and overlaps. The issue is worsened by the fact that the vehicle field will grow depending on the vehicle data. So both fields are allowed to grow from opposite sides. When the right combination of a long business name and long vehicle descriptor are on the same document, there is overlap. Bummer.

One option is to not allow that field to 'grow' or limit the growth, but that might cut off some valuable data. Another option is to put the persons name underneath the business name; that should allow room for most business names. I'm no expert in Crystal Reports. This will have to be reviewed by JD most likely.

One thing you can do right now is to abbreviate either the business name or the persons name as much as possible until a fix is created. I went through my database and found only four cases where the name was long enough and the vehicle data was long and it created some overlap.

It is the vehicle that goes to long and cuts off the year. That is the part we have the problem with. The name can be short and it still cuts off the vehicle year. It is a problem with the vehicle part not the name. Ever since the last update, when the center dividing line that is between parts and labor no longer goes all the way down, that is when this started also. The line going down is no big deal, but it cutting off vehicle info is a problem.

Yesterday we have a 2005 chrysler town and country and with all the info after the vehicle it cuts off and reads 005 chrysler town and country. Another vehicle was a 2007 Ford RV Cutaway E350, print out invoice and only reads 7 Ford RV cutaway E350. If I could somehow upload the image to show you I would, but as most people on here I am not that computer savy.

I suppose it doesn't really matter which it is. Regardless, it will need to be fixed. In the examples I was able to reproduce with my database, there was a combination of both. Either way, there is a repeatable problem.

Can't seem to put my hands on it, there was a recent discussion that lengthy YMM descriptions were causing some characters to be cut off.

Please confirm which invoice was in use.

Sorry guys,

Was on vacation last week and never got a chance to cover this one with Tim before I left. You should be able to use this template http://www.m1faqs.com/fix/SE/invhrsv7.exe to take care of that. Instead of cutting off YMM, it'll favor it over the VIN engine code. Which to a customer, is probably far more important. :)

Without going into too much technical detail, there are about 6 or 7 variants (including Inv w/o Hours) that are all based on the same core template. The file I linked will work for you. :D
