Inactive Employee / Ex employee

Post by Bernhausen »

Since we moved over to Mitchel we have a few employees move onto other things. We have set them as inactive and set a released date, how the employees still show up as technicians on the "tech drop down" in labour lines. We don't want to delete them as then there would be no record in the system as to when they were employed at the shop. How do we make inactive employees fully inactive??

As you may have guessed by now, the Inactivity designation only applies to the Scheduler. Most often, we simply recommend editing the name and adding 'x' in front the name. They're not truly gone that way, but it should be easy to avoid getting them selected.

Also, you might want to go with a different font color. Very tough to read blue on blue for people like me with deuteranopia.

sorry, habit to use blue on most boards.

Are there plans to have inactive employees removed from the RO screen in the future?

I just delete them. The 'record' that they were employed at the shop is in your file cabinet in a folder marked with their name, along with all the other paper work such as employment agreement, discharge date, etc. Deleting them does not mean they no longer show on history invoices, they do. Help me here, but I can see no other reason to keep them in Manager.

If you delete them - they will still show up on the old history invoices? They are not just blank?

If that's the case, I will be deleting away!

Yes. Here is a part from an order from 2003. The tech no longer works for me and has been deleted. Notice the x's in front of the name.

Then why is there a "Discharged Date" option?

We also have some long term jobs which the tech was assigned to, the tech cannot be deleted if he/she is still assigned to a job. This means our shop project truck which could take the better part of a year will lock that employee in until such time the project is complete.

I couldn't answer that. The field was added when they upgraded the scheduler. Perhaps a future enhancement.

I would never tolerate tripping over discharged technicians in Manager. In my opinion, they should disappear from the pull down menu if discharged. But that was never an option back in the early 2000's, so I just delete them.

When we beefed up Technician Setup for SE Scheduler, we made efforts to also incorporate related requests for information storage such as employee address, notes, date hired and date discharged. These fields are not intended to switch or filter anything. The Inactive checkbox does address the employee availability for the Scheduler.
