Customer Screen: Change 1st Phone Default to Cellular

Post by adtire1 »

Surely there is a setting change that would allow us to have CELLULAR as the 1st default phone number when entering a new customer's contact info, but numerous key word searches have not revealed the answer to me. In the heat of battle we sometimes forget to go back and cut/paste the number they rattled off to us so that it is correctly entered as CELLULAR. Message Manager seems to NOT recognize a HOME number as a possible mobile, but WILL let you know if you try to text to a non-mobile number entered in the CELLULAR spot. The vast majority of our customers give their cell when checking in.

Less time would be spent fixing phone number entries if the CUSTOMER SCREEN default 1st entry matched what is most common today: CELLULAR.

I considered trying an edit to the phone list in SETUP, but thought better of it: seems like that would scramble up the database and I'd have a host of cell-home switches incorrectly executed.

I'm glad you paused to consider what would have happened; that move would've just changed the labels on the phone data to where you could not trust it.

Most of our customers have been with us a long time, since back when Home & Office made sense. We had to preserve how phone numbers have been stored historically, however I can tell you that I've seen a recent development mechanism that could provide users what they obviously want at this point in time; to safely put the Cellular option in the first position. Stay tuned

+1 on this request. We started using Manager over 17 years ago. At the time, home and office were the best defaults...who could have ever seen how cell phones would take over. I would really like to be able to make Cell my first entry field without messing up the database! Right now I always have to open the dialog...

Hey I still have mine where it picks which phone number it wants to have as default and display. I have some numbers that are not checked and they are the only ones that show up until you go into customer scree and look at numbers. This is why I can not do the Bolt on program, because I never know which numbers it would be sending out reminders to.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

It is definitely coming to a computer near you soon in version 7.5. We plan to begin shipping by the middle of August.

I like it to just show the number you have checked in the telephone list. I get people that only wanted called, today, at the office. But even though "work" is the only number marked I still get two numbers showing up on the RO.

Agreed. In this day and age, people have many options of contact. For this customer, today they need to be contacted via ____? This happens on every job, every customer, every day. There should be a mechanism to show method of contact per RO, including text, skype, facetime or whatever.

Skype, facetime? No way. I would for sure get busted rolling my eyes or banging my head on the desk talking to some of our customers.

Just consider it practice for when they are at the counter. JD doesn't have a counter in his office, just a fridge with DP.

+1, especially TEXT. A minority do not want to be texted at all, some prefer a text, some don't care either way. In our area it seems if you call the customer and leave a VM either they never receive the VM or just don't listen to VM's.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Assuming that second number should not be used and there is typically no extension (and I don't want it on the RO), what if you could put an 'x' in the extension field to cause it not to print that second number? :

if {CustomerReports.PhoneExt2}= "x" then
print phone1
else print phone1 + phone2;
