Commit Inventory At EST Stage?

Post by sbcauto »

It Would be Nice When Checking Inventory , If there Were Parts Allocated That It would Show On Inventory Card. like I have three Estimates With Oil Filters on them. I could See That I did Not Have Any Filters In Stock. Now It Would Show 3 Until W/o Moved to Invoice & Paid.. Thanks

It does. Parts are allocated at the Repair Order stage (printed), not the Estimate stage.

It Would Be Nice At Estimate Stage, As I Never Use R/O. I Go From Estimate Straight To Invoice. Thanks

I suggest you start right at the RO stage and skip the Estimate, that way the program will do what you want and work as designed.

Say I made an Estimate for some random dude and I used parts from inventory in the Estimate. He says he'll be back tomorrow to decide. If parts were committed at this stage, the program will ask to replenish that when the job is not sold, ie Estimate. This is undesirable for most shops.

I would Be Ok Starting With R/O if it Was A Different Number Than Invoice Number. If I Start With R/O, And The Job Does Not Finish For 4-5 Days, Then If I Do A Deposit It Throws My Invoice Numbers Out Of Sequence. This Happens Quite Often When A Large Job Is Done Like an Engine Or Head gasket. If I leave As Estimate, then my Invoice Numbers Are All In Order. It Is Very Rare That My Estimates Not Make It To Invoice. If I Do A Reorder of Parts, I Would Check Inventory For Allocations. Perhaps This Could Be A Setting In Setup For Those Who Wish To Use It This Way. Just a Thought. Thanks

Numbers in order? LOL. Mine are never in order, and I couldn't care less. The money spends the same way.

If your Invoice Numbers Are Never In Order, How do you Know Your Not Missing one? This Is Important to Anyone Who Is a Accountant. this Is the Point I'm Making.

I'm not concerned with missing orders. My office staff has been with me for 18 years. And I include the deleted order report in my End of Day, so if something weird was done it would show immediately. My thought is let the program work for you, not the other way around. :D

can i ask a dumb question, you don't purge your estimates very often do you?

You could "delete" them that way.

I only have Estimates I'm working on. Estimates That Don't Get Work Done are Purged Twice a Month. If I Have Not Heard Back With In A Couple Of Weeks, Then I Purge Them.
