Customer name change

Post by Rich »

Before I screw this up. I assume......

We have a company in the system "Dawg Pound Taxi" which was owned by "Mike Norton". He closed his business. I am about 99.99% sure I can just add his name to the customer tab and simply delete his company name in the "Company" information spot.

But is it really that simple?

You can do that. My question is why.

Because when he calls he is no longer "Hey! It's Mike from Dawg Pound" it's "Hey! It's Mike Norton".....I know the difference, but the Owner may not, and I am trying to save that confusion - You know...Not finding "Mike Norton", starting a new customer, enter license plate, get the warning........

I see. We don't have that problem here so some of this is foreign to me.

If it were me, I'd create a new customer and transfer vehicles. If you do it that way, all of his invoices that you've billed to him under his company name will still show under the company name for your records and for his (if either are ever needed). If you just change the name, all invoices you've ever billed him on will just show his personal name and there won't be any record of you doing work for him under his company name. I'm a stickler for record keeping and connecting the dots so, that would just be the way that I would do it so there would be a clear trail, if ever needed.

Hmmmmm......Very good point! Sadly it's to late now. But I can easily pick out his "taxis" from his person cars. But you are right, that would be a little more labor intensive but the best way to do it.

It's fixable. You can put his company name back on the profile and create a new one for his personal use. Then, unpost any personal invoices, change the customer on them, and re-post under that customer. It is some work so, it's just up to you what you want to go with!

I, unfortunately, have to use Change Customer and Change Owner all the time because we work with a ton of companies and my guys can't seem to check for existing profiles before hitting "New Customer". :?
